M3 E92 E93 engine

Post by PORTMYSTER »

Hi everyone as some may know that I have problems with my Z3 2.8 which looks like the O rings need replacing. Which once this gets done I will be putting the car up for sale and go a head with buying a z3m.
Just thinking how easy would ihttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-M3-E92-E93-Engine-Motor-Coupe-Convertible-V8_W0QQitemZ170326150215QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item170326150215&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50t be to drop this engine into the m roadster
I have seen some E46 engines on ebay with fitting included into the price, I would believe this would be a more straight forward job.

Doesn't appear to have the ECU - which is the first problem.
Fitting it shouldn't be an issue. Getting it running will be...
Not impossible by any means, but, it wouldn't be easy.

You'd need some serious funds / skill to pull that off. Think of the implications for the rest of drive line in terms of strength etc.

surely the e46/s54 block would be fairly simple to put in as the updated version had the new engine?

putting an e92 in though would be a bit mental, why not go for the e39 m5 engine instead? probably more worth the effort? there was an orange roadster with this conversion done by ac schniztner i think?

I would believe the m3 E46 engine would be fairly a like for like swap and I would think drive chain and running gear would not need to be changed. As for the E92 I missed that there is no ECU with it which is definitely a head ache to replace and funds. As there some high mileage M roadsters out there it may make good sense to swap the old E36 to the updated E46, its only a thought running through my mind as a friend has an old MX-5 a 1992 model and changed the 1.6 engine to a mrk2 1.8 engine. Wow an M5 engine in a Z I would presume the engine bay had to go through a lot of fabrication modifications to accommodate that engine.

Based on what AC Schnitzer have said about transplanting the S65 and S85, it would be cheaper to buy a new E9x ///M3.

If money was no object, so easy option drop a low milage E46 engine into the Z3m which would give a new heart into an high milage car. The E36 M engine how many miles have these cars been good for with regular service ect.

you will need mega funds to put a new m3 engine in the Z3M. I saw a Z3M with the E39 M5 engine in it and the cost to do it was about £30k!!!!!!

Senna has done S52 S62 conversions, very expensive though.
My Z1 is too FAST and my Gallardo is too SLOW
