You could t using realoem to cross refernce the part numbers. I can't say anyone has tried this mod yet on here.

I have recently bought a replacement the same as in the pic but not illuminated as I couldn't find one that did in the chrome style for a Z3, haven't fitted it yet So the one in the pic you posted is for a 1 series? I would think it should fit then but I just wonder if the wiring connector is the same as the Z3 unless you patch it in?

I just had this delivered, looks nice...im sure its smaller than the standard M one though? the two wires dont have a connector on them either but i guess with a bit of playing I can take that off my old one?

Ok I'll let you know how I get on, is it a simple case of pulling the gear stick up to free it

Ermmm, sort of! The gear knob pulls straight off the gear stick however I understand that it requires quite a bit of force. With the ///M version you have to be careful not to pull the wires out when the gear knob frees itself from the gear stick. IIRC a top tip is to put the roof down first and position yourself directly over the knob when you pull...oooer missusshantybeater wrote:... is it a simple case of pulling the gear stick up to free it

top tip 2 .....assuming you want to avoid a fat lip or bloody nose keep your face well clear while pullingmyredzed wrote:first and position yourself directly over the knob when you pull.....shantybeater wrote:... is it a simple case of pulling the gear stick up to free it

Mmmm. You need to be very careful when talking about pulling your knob off or people might get the wrong idea!2litrezed wrote:this reads soooo wrong
Didn't someone here manage to hit his girlfriend in the face whilst attempting to pull his off?
Cheers R.

yup I read that too - so I spose you need to keep her head well clear while you pull - in the intrests of health and safety (you both could be blinded)Robert T wrote:Didn't someone here manage to hit his girlfriend in the face whilst attempting to pull his off?2litrezed wrote:this reads soooo wrong

i cannot for the life of me get this off, do you literally just pull upwards as hard as possible? is there some sort of knack to doing this?

I used a slight twisting motion while applying a lot of pull pressure using both hands I managed to anchor my elbows against the centre console while kneeling on the passenger seat(this is the danger bit keep your head well clear).
I got to the point where I was really worried that the gear lever would brake...... and off she popped.
The new gear knob was easy to push on although I havnt tried to remove it since.

Ok I got it off, next problem is how do I go about connecting the wires up? Currently I've just got two hanging wires on the new knob and can't see how to take the black connector off the old knob? It looks like somehow it comes apart, I would like to avoid just chopping the wires

Man up and cut them and join with some crimp connectors
