A company selling polishes did this to a GT3 as an advertising tool  looked OK but perhaps not in keeping with the cars character.

I concur - it's a great paint job and suits the curves of the M. I have been look at So-Cal flip blues that are similar to estoril but kick out more shades.. but then everyone knows I'm into modding but for me this is tame and well thought.

Ultimately.. :? probably but it depends on who you sell to, quality of paintwork (I have found my local bodyshop man far better than BMW). Most cars need paintwork tending to at some point.. sometimes it's best to repaint the whole car to get a good match and finish. I wouldn't fancy a BMW trade-in.. you of course lose any BMW warranty mind.

Plan B (if you're like me) is not to commit the heinous act of selling the M in the first place. Custom, drive... enjoy..

I stand by my earlier HO - that's a cracking colour on a cracking car.

Blimey, that's twice this year you two have agreed on something :!: :!:

The car's nice but not to my taste. My feeling goes with your view Jon. If I were to go for a flip respray, it would have to be different shades of blue with the existing Estoril. Now that would be truly tasteful, with just enough subtlety not to look like a Nova enthusiast after his small lottery syndicate win.

Which reminds me, Jon, have you had your front-end sprayed, or will it be 'au naturelle' :?: [cue Spokey :D ]. If it's to be the former, it could be an opportune moment  for the flip-job :?:

My babe's just had a new nose, and there are a couple of minor differences from original. I'd appreciate a hint or two for posting pics.

I think it looks stunning, the wheels are fantastic too.

Not normally a fan of non standard colours on cars but I think this looks so well suited to the car that a lot of people would think it was a limited edition or special option ?

I would have it on my drive for sure !

Utterly butterly obnoxious :head: I can't believe anyone with a modicum of taste could actually like these multi-tone colour schemes. It's like metalflake etc, best seen on a Yankee hot rod  but I suppose it takes all sorts  I would think it is murder to try to "blend in" a repair ding. :(

The effect on the first one is interesting (the second looks like it's been dipped in oil) but not something I would do, it looks a bit ricey which to my mind, doesn't suit the retro style of the z3.

Hi

Post by 321bhp »

i think some cars can get away with it and some cant,on a tvr multi-tones look good and people expect that on a tvr,you would not expect it on say a rolls royce or a ferrari ,porche,BMW, i think its up to the owner to decide but ,the cars gotta be right for the colour, and i think the z3 dosent take it to well, now a nova, clio, escort, etc yes,

no im not saying that,i think that when a car comes out as new and you see all the colours availible in the brouchure ,it sometimes comes as a bit of a shock when you see something differant, take del-boy ,rodney trotter ,now the yellow 3 wheeler just wouldnt be the same in multi-coloured ,its gotta be yellow,if BMW had brought out multi-coloured options on there cars we wouldnt think anything off it,a bit like TVR have you dont think any differant about the TVR as you know thats already a colour they do,ya see :D :D

This just shows up the different tastes people on this board have, what suits one somebody else will hate, this has got to be or everybody would be driving plain white cars.FYI my Montreal blue looks different colours in different lights and looks purple in flashlight photos

Like the colour and the wheels of the first photo :D however, the second photo does it no favours at all, it looks like the body shop forgot to finish spraying the front  :? I think this is a colour that would get very boring very quickly.

Like most of you I think the first photo is stunning and those wheels are the biz, the second is definately not.

Shame on those of you who think that the rest of us who liked the first photo paint job have no taste - and feel the need to say so (not mentioning any names :) ) . You are seriously outnumbered here as it seems the majority of us like it. To each his own, and everyones likes or dislikes are equally valid... :P

Paint as std..bonnet anything but.. just being fresh makes a diff and painter commented how Estoril had some natural flip qualities and was a bloody hard colour to match/blend.. i.e. a lot of green in it. Looking at flips and spectraflare finishes for next year.

Thx.. I'm going to re-design the front stripes so they curl down ala Martini-racer. Given that's its std Estoril.. it's amazing what flip qualities it has.. body shop commented on how much torquise is in the colour..more noticeable on the Z than on say an E36 or E46..
