Where is best to get your Z3M serviced in Scotland?
Where is best to get your Z3M serviced in Scotland?
Morning Zed Forum,
I am the proud owner of a Z3M Roadster, purchased 6 months ago. I would like to get a few things sorted on the vehicle including a new clutch kit fitied, seats reconditioned, steering checked and a general once over for peace of mind.
Any recommendations?

Bullitt performance in Washington
It's on your way to Yorkshire
Drop it off and have a bit shopping in the metro centre
Very knowledgeable and reasonable

If it's an oil service, fine. Anyone who can service a car can do an oil service as it is just an oil filter and oil change. Resetting the service indicator requires a tool that most garages will have - if not, you can get one for <£10.ragerover wrote:Bullitt performance in Washington

If it's more than an oil service it needs to be left overnight to allow everything to get cool enough to do the valve shims.

True
But he mentioned clutch etc, steering etc
Oil change and insp 1 can be done
Insp 2 either left over night or 8 hrs
Nothing stopping you doing other work.,taking cam cover off
Then leaving it till the rest of the 8 hrs is up
In this weather it will cool and settle easy enough in 8 hrs
Plus when my Mrs goes to Metro centre she's gone all bloody day

Hi Pingu - looking at the attached list http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopi ... 18&t=10538 I am assuming that you mean this part...pingu wrote:

ooo Check valve clearances and adjust if necessary (///M only).
If so - is this really a big job (ie garage) or can a DIYer do it easily?? The rest of it all seems pretty standard stuff (oil change, filter change, coolant change, plug changes brake check etc...)
Re: Where is best to get your Z3M serviced in Scotland?
Errm; no-one seems to have covered the original question - any info, anyone ?

It is. I DIY it, but you need a few specialist tools and a compressor to blow the shims out to measure them.bertiejaffa wrote:Hi Pingu - looking at the attached list http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopi ... 18&t=10538 I am assuming that you mean this part...pingu wrote:

It is part of Inspection 1, Inspection 2 & 2nd Inspection 2. It is not part of Running-in or Oil Service.

Clutch - could be done by anyone (Kwikfit, etc.). You don't need a Z specific recommendation.Dapperboy wrote:Morning Zed Forum,

What's wrong with the seats would determine where best to get it done.
Steering check - Kwikfit, etc. Nothing special, unless it needs more than tracking done. The only way to adjust the castor/camber is with shims and this is not recommended. Incorrect castor/camber (assuming that your car is standard) indicates worn suspension components, which any backstreet garage can replace.
General once over - just ask the guy who does your MOT what he thinks.
I don't think you need an M specialist (until it comes to an inspection service), you need a good mechanic. I would ask around your local area.

Re the actual post question I agree with you on the clutch and the steering comments. The engine itself is usually as simple as a good listen... if its still and quiet its a winner. I would ask how much it has been driven before you bought it? The reason for this is when I bought my M 12 months ago it had hardly been used for 3 years. After a proper hard drive over the snake and woodhead passes I needed a new rocker gasket and 2 new brake hoses - these cars don't like to be stood still. As for the seats what is wrong with them?
