Z3M in winter

Post by Z3andZ4 »

What do you guys with Z3M's do in winter to stay mobile?

I have a Z3 3l now and for winter I have a spare set of alloys and skinny tyres, which have kept me mobile 3 winters on the trot.

I will have to keep mobile this winter for work and it's a four hour drive each way Mon's and Fri's so I have to have certainty as it involves travelling in 'the North', not Scotland but an area that has snow and ice from time to time. I also want to feel secure on the Motorway with my wheel and tyre choice.

Thank you.

Do as you do on the 3.0, Invest in a decent quality set of winter snow tyres and put them on a spare set of rims if you can, the difference thay make in the cold weather is huge, I have run a set on my daily driver for the past few years and I could not believe the difference they make.

I actually meant to say winter tyres and I agree they make a huge difference.

Will what I have for the 3l ne suitable for the Z3M? If so I just won't sell the spare alloys/wheels when I sell it.

I don't like the way it looks in winter as the arches are so empty, but it substance over style in winter.

I bought my spare set from the forum and have never looked back.

Just my opinion but they're not really the car to do 4hrs commutes in, especially in winter. You could do it of course, but much rather be in my A3 TDI for that.

Your existing winter wheels would sit even further in on the Z3M due to the low offset required on the rear, so would need 20-35mm spacers on the rear. Better with a 2nd set of rough OE Z3M alloys on winter tyres.

As I understand it you need to keep to narrow smaller tyres for winter, not the wide staggered that nicely fill the arch's
Seems choice of practical/safety or appearance.
