GREYGATE No.5 PLASTIC POLISH.

Post by Southernboy »

I collected a couple of tubes of Greygate No.5 plastic polish earlier this morning... I am extremely impressed with the ease with which it removed the ubiquitous "smudge" across the centerfold of the rear window. Further, I had a fairly deep scratch about 4" long as a result of careless tool handling while working in the awkward area back there. I had tried Meguiars "Plastix" prviously, and found it ineffective, also it seemed to leave a " waxy" residue on the plastic which refused to buff off. With around 10 minutes of buffing with Greygate, the scratch has almost been totally removed...I would say if I applied myself for another 10 minutes, it would buff out completely.
Finally, it is economical. Only a small ammount is required and one doesn't require heavy pressure for it to be effective, and even better, it left no "waxiness" when buffed off.

A really great product. :thumb:

Hi Hunter
Chrisp_1 was kind enough to post 2 tubes of the Greygate to me. It's commonly available in the UK, and it seems it was and may still be the polish of choice for the airforce there. Apparently, they use it to polish the cockpit plexiglass I am told.

They do have it on eBay UK. Problem was they wouldn't ship to South Africa...

I've used it on the rear screen as well and does a good job. It also is good on the headlamp lenses.

Hey, he may be doing well out of me, but it is a good product, and the guys here may as well have the benefit of a decent result. Nothing worse than trying to see the woman in the car behind and she looks as though she has a moustache because of the center smudge...then again, maybe she does have a moustache.... :D

I much prefer the liquid form than the paste applied using a polishing pad,

The eBay listing says "Greygate Bakelite polish & scratch remover".

Or am I looking at the wrong listing?

HI all, first of all this is my first post for quite a while (although I'm still lurking in the background), Happy New Year to all you Zedders out there, Spring's just round the corner! :) :bounce:

Now to my problem...I bought a couple of tubes of Greygate No.5 off ebay to polish my rear screen but don't seem to be having the success everyone else is having. I had some light scratches on the rear screen :head: , and using the Greygate has almost completely removed these scratches (a bit more elbow grease and I'm sure they'll disappear completely) but now I'm left with a myriad of very fine scratches caused by the Greygate instead which are almost as bad to my eyes.

When I rub the Greygate between my fingers it feels much more gritty than I expected, is this correct, or should it be smooth paste (like toothpaste)? I see you can also get a liquid form of the Greygate, would I be better off using this rather than the tubes, or is there something else I can use to get the screen back to original condition?

Cheers, wonderloaf.

Cheers Mark, maybe I can use the Greygate to get rid of the scratches and the Meg's to give the final buff up.
