Rear Screen Scratch remover.

Post by Phil »

For years I have used the BMW cabrio rear screen cleaner. The one that comes in a tube and looks like toothpaste.
BMW no longer have this product although it still has a part number and price.

Anyone used the Renovo product?

Sapphire black/Imola red and black interior/ red roof/ S54 - the only RHD one made.

Hi Phil...if you want to get shot of the scratch...Greygate it!! it's less hassle to change the rear screen than work the scratch out with Macguiars....Greygate comes in paste and creme...I got the paste...kinda like toothpaste it is....even smells minty. read through the link that Huntert posted above in his reply.

Will try that stuff as well. Phil had a new roof this year. It should be in good condition still.

I have a new roof and window. I found the meguires stuff excellent for polishing and maintaining the suppleness of the plastic. Not brilliant for major scratch removal.

Depends on your needs.

Agreed. Is there any significance in the No.5 in "GREYGATE No.5 PLASTIC POLISH" - no mention of No.5 in ebay searches - is it all the same stuff?

Just tried Greygate on mine, although it removes the fold line, it makes a mess of the rest of the screen, covered in swirl scratches now

This is my experience also, made my screen worse than it started, tried Megs Plastx but not much better, still looking for a solution! :(

OK...here's the secret.....Soft cloth and Brasso...with lots of elbow grease. I've used the Greygate, which is really great at getting major work done, but then to get the plastic really clear I use Brasso. It takes some work, but eventually comes up like a new window.

Your window isn't that old is it?

You need to be very careful when washing the window.

I am sooooo careful when I wash my rear window, but still managed to get some scratches in it :head: Might give the Brasso ago though!
