Proffesional screen scratch removal recommendations sought
Well I've managed to put a few very light scratches in my front screen, probably caused by a bit of grit in the squeegee when cleaning the screen this morning
Don't know how it happened as I always wipe the blade with my finger before use, but it's happened so now have to deal with it.
The scratches are so light you can't feel them with your fingernail, but are really obvious in direct light.
I've thought about a DIY kit but because it's over a fair amount of the drivers side of the screen (nowhere else though...aaarghh) have decided against this, so does anybody know of a professional in the Hampshire/Berkshire area they can recommend?
On the extreme side, does anyone have any idea how much it costs to have a screen fitted?......Gulp!
Thanks in advance, Wonderloaf.

Have a search on the forum....I did a post about scratch removal on glass. The product is available on eBay, but is also possibly available from a decorative glass cutter / polisher. It's the only stuff that will take scratches out of glass and requires some elbow grease with an electric buffer / drill with buffer...The glass people use it to polish glass after it's been ground with a bevel or such. It's called Cerium Oxide. If you search eBay for Cerium Oxide Glass Polish, it'll come up.
I would suggest you google "cerium oxide" and read a few threads on how to apply and polish with it. It'll also give you an idea of which quality to go for. If I recall, the "white" powder was the best...

Hi Southernboy, actually I bought a cerium oxide scratch removal kit last year to remove a couple of small wiper scratches but never got round to using it, and would be a bit nervous to use it on the number of new scratches that I've picked up so want to investigate the pro route to start off with.Southernboy wrote:Have a search on the forum....I did a post about scratch removal on glass. Just had a conversation with a scratch removal specialist, the good news is he says that it sounds as though the scratches are very light and he will be able to remove them, they charge by the hour so the more there are, the more you pay. He also says that when he's finished it will be as good as a new screen. So it all comes down to money in the end...
Of course there's still the hammer in a tea towel route....

Just be careful if you have the screen polished thats in your line of sight as any vigorous polishing effectively removes some of the surface glass which can change the glass optics. I did this on my old Toyota MR2 as the screen was scratched and it left the glass very slightly wavy but notceable. In the end I had a new screen fitted.

Thanks for the warning Tim, I've got a technician coming round to inspect the screen sometime this week, must say I'm tempted by a new screen but also remember seeing other postings about getting it installed properly, or else you can get a whistling noise at speed. Think that would annoy me more than the scratches!TitanTim wrote:Just be careful if you have the screen polished thats in your line of sight as any vigorous polishing effectively removes some of the surface glass which can change the glass optics.
