Schnitzer for real or not? with picture
I recently won an auction for AC Schnitzer gear knob and pedals. The gear knob weighs 5 3/4 ozs. How can I tell whether these items are genuine or imitation?
Am I right in saying that I will have to drill holes in my pedals to fit the Schnitzer pedals?

if that is a mark on the top of the gearknob just where the emblem meets the metal, I would say it is not genuine.... Schnitzer quality is usually very good and I would be surprised if that passed their QC.
Also.... the pedal quality is not too good, they seem blurry

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

The blurry picture of the pedals is due to the camera focussing on the gear knob. Will get a clearer picture up.
As you say gookah there is a small chip on the gear knob.
Forgot to mention, these items are used.

Does it matter if they work ?Ragtop wrote: How can I tell whether these items are genuine or imitation?

I thought that Mr T, even £40 I thought was pricey for the pedals considering I'd be wiping my size 10s on them everydayTitan wrote:Does it matter if they work ?Ragtop wrote: How can I tell whether these items are genuine or imitation?
My knob, well that was worth and arm and a leg
Tim.
That's cool. It'll all match then. My car has black leatherette with wood trim, including shift knob and hand brake. Also I have the chrome surrounds on the dials and centre console A/C knobs.Ragtop wrote:amancuso wrote:Nice stuff! Does your Z have the titanium or wood trim?
Afraid I don't know how to tell genuine from repros.

It has the brushed aluminium trim.

Thanks for that Dave. I have got the small fixing bolts with mine so I will have to drill holes in my pedals.

mmmm from the pictures the pedals actually look like originals and therefore hard to tell without actually touching them. If they are second hand the clips may have been misplaced ?
The gearstick again from pics is hard to tell but as far as I know the "short shift" gearsticks only came with etched tops and not stickers. I've had a "copy" one sent to me and to be honest the only reason I knew it was a copy is I already had an original to compare it directly against. Even though I only paid a few pounds for it I sent it back and got a refund but to be honest for the money it was a bargain as 99% of people would not have been able to tell.
Genuine second hand short shift gearsticks tend to go for £60+.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I was originally looking for a gearstick and came across the gearstick with the pedals and set a limit of £30 for both as I wasn't sure they were originals. The advert was spelt wrongly so not many bidders.
I will certainly try the gearstick to see if the weight makes a difference to the OEM one. The rubber inserts look new on the pedals. I'm not sure if I want to drill holes in the pedals, but will give it more thought.
Jonttt I recently saw a picture of your Schinitzer gearstick, if it's not on your car at the moment would it be possible for you to weigh it for me to see if it's the same as mine which is 5 3/4 ounces.

Jonttt in this thread http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopi ... ht=#253592 you posted a picture of a Schinitzer gearstick, is this the one you sent back?
Having seen that picture I assumed you still had it, hence asking you to weigh it.
I should have looked at your post above more closely.

Chinese copies of Schnitzer that I have seen weigh in at 250gms(8.8oz) but the one in the link below which has same shape but with BMW badge weighs according to the vendor 800gms(28oz)

Gear knob on (sort of). Will have to drive it before I bite the bullet and cut the wires. Haven't been able to drive it for the last couple of days as I have been dying the seats.
Have only put the pedals on with self tappers at the moment. I think they look ok so I will probably go ahead and drill the holes.

Ragtop, there is no need to cut the wires on the gear knob If you pull the gaitor up over the gear knob and remove the foam block you will see the wires go off under the front of the centre console. Gently pull the wire and a plastic connector should appear. You just need to unplug the gear knob. Tape the left connector block up with some insulating tape and I taped mine down to stop it moving around.

I don't have the one in the pic you listed as I sold that but I do have a new "blackline" version on which is the same but black and I know is genuine Schnitzer.
Looking at your fitted pics it is easier to see. The gear stick does not look genuine and to be honest neither do the pedals. I don't have close up pics of mine (I'll try and remember to take some pics at weekend as car is stored) but the wording does not seem to be the correct font (but they do look good on )
I have the dead pedal (ie footrest) as well, they are very rare as they were so expensive new and are no longer available, they bring c£100 second hand but to be honest they are not worth it as they just restrict the pedals and you have to use driving shoes if you have wide feet.

I've just won a set of these, stated as genuine brand new in the box, pic has ac schnitzer tag. I asked the seller if it came with clamps but he replied that only copies have the clamps and the originals short bolts. I'll just have to see when they turn up.Ragtop wrote:DAVE P wrote:genuine AC Schnitzer pedals come with fixing brackets for the brake and clutch pedals which clamp the acs parts to the original pedals, copies only tend to be supplied with the small fixing bolts.

Have you received these yet? Did they come with the fixing clamps/brackets?Althulas wrote:I've just won a set of these, stated as genuine brand new in the box, pic has ac schnitzer tag. Picture below shows mine fitted. I had to make my own clamps/brackets for the brake and clutch pedals. I just screwed the accelerator pedal onto the original one.
I never did discover whether mine were originals or not but my guess is they are copies.
To cut a long story short I've sent mine back being so they were copies. The seller was dishonest with his listing to say the least but after some aggravation I should be getting my refund soon.

Althulas how did you identify them as copies? Did they come with clamps/brackets?
I think my ones may have been advertised something like Schnitzer style. As I only paid £30 for the pedals and gearstick I wasn't that concerned about them being copies. But if yours were advertised as genuine then it's right you get a refund.
They never came in a ASC box or with a certificate. The AC part of the emblem engraved on the pedals is different from the one the seller displayed from his listing. If you go on ebay and look at the Rossiters listings you can see the difference in the logo. There is also a slight difference on the curved shape of the accelerator pedal if you look very carefully.

The e-bay seller that Mark (Althulas) had bought the pedals from had been a little naughty in that the photo he/she used was a copy of a photo that Rossiters use to advertise their genuine ACS pedal covers. Rossiters are the official UK importer and distributor for ACS, The seller had listed the pedals as the Genuine item. When I looked at the set Mark had bought on the reverse side of the pedals is some serial numbers which match a copy set I also have. The set I bought 2 years ago are definite copies as I paid 40 quid or so for them and they were advertised as such.
I hope Mark gets a refund as they were blatanly being sold as Genuine
The genuine set are around £150 so when you see something for a third of the price or with no reserve I have to ask why is the seller willing to take a potential loss in value if genuine.
Tim.
To be fair the seller already gave me nice feedback before I even received the item. He even has 100% feedback so I was perplexed by being sent an obvious fake, the trickery to go with it and the hassle of emails to get him to do the right thing.

If you look at the feedback though, the guy has only actually sold 3 items. The rest is feedback from other sellers from items he has bought. Its always a good idea to actally look at how many items the seller has sold in this case not many lol. So when you see 100% feedback its natural to think AOK seller and genuineAlthulas wrote:To be fair the seller already gave me nice feedback before I even received the item. This seller as turn out to be a right tosser full of bull shite sweet nothings. The seller has stopped responding to any communications so I will now have to wait until the 6th to escalate my claim.
I've managed to missplace my reciept for recorded delivery but he has acknowledged that he's had the returned item through the eBay email system so hopefully eBay won't allow allow him to get away with theft. I do have the sellers home and work address just makes you mad enough to go and pay him a visit and give his mush a good smack resulting in more than 70 quids worth of dental work.
