Road Tax - Gulp!

Post by Simes123 »

Road tax due on my 2001 Z3 at the end of this month. Was wondering why my reminder hadn't come yet and realised the digits had been transposed on the house number recorded on the V5. Was mooching around the DVLA website and thought I'd just look up the rate for this year. Nearly fainted. £460 for 12 months! Car is. 2.2i first registered June '01, 229G/Km.

Last year it was 250 ish. Hmm - I only do 3-4k miles a year in it, and lately I've been working away so it is used for more than just the summer, so 6monthly only summer driving use is not viable. I guess this will spell the death knell for these classics - too young to be free. Think I'm just going to do 6months tax, enjoy it for one last summer and part ex it against something boring. Gutted, but can't really justify road tax at that level given the miles I do in her. :(

Must admit I hadn't NB'd that the higher tax was coming in yet.

I'm an idiot. On emissions, its band L, but I missed that in band K there is an asterisk in the DVLA's table that says also for vehicles >225G/km registered before 2006.

Happier now :)

I think the earlier S50s are slightly cheaper than the S54 as pre 2001 ;-)

Mines very much a Sunday/holiday car and covers less than the average motor.
It is also a modern clean engine- although fair enough the CO and mpg isn't great

However the last few years have been £440, this year it started with a 1....
I don't mind paying my fair share but considering that some cars could be doing four/five times the mileage :head:

It's not a tax based on usage, it's a duty based on ownership with the option of it being free if you don't use it.

I'm looking forward to the VED being online only and there being no need to display. I'll be SORNing/TAXing and vice versa every other month, depending on the weather and the cost of swapping  .
