Hamann hardtops...

Post by Z3cade »

Keep looking at them on google images.. Sooooo gooood! 8-)

Why isn't there any for sale?

Wish someone in the know how would make copy's of them.. Think so many of us zed owners would have one

If they were available who else would want one? :D

Yes please I would go for it. Im not bothered about a standard hardtop but the Hamann version is lovely. If they were common maybe the appeal would be less...

The differences between the Hamann and the OEM are subtle but make a big difference. The smaller rear window, more shallow slant at the back and the bumps on top - i assume for rollhops - somehow make it look sleeker, harder, classier. I dont think if they were more common the appeal would be less. OEM roof always go for good money and they are pretty common.
Like you say, shame no one has ever produced anything simliar. You wouldnt think it would be that difficult to produce a fibreglass version maybe. I'd like to see one in the flesh and see how it is mounted though.

I think I read somewhere lat elast night that UK official supplier charges £1900. I looked on the Autovogue website and they have these pics, so i assume they are still available.
The Blue Zed there is a pre facelift 2.8. worth maybe £3000 in principal? in great nick of course, but even with the wheels and the roof its still got to be about £6k-£7k. But it looks like a MUCH more expensive car.

HAHAHA! now that IS a tempting offer! Is that from Autovogue or from Hamann direct? Judging by what you get on Google there are PLENTY out there who'd have one. Shantybeater will be gnawing on his Porsche steering wheel!

From what I've read the fitting kit is peculair to the hamann hardtop, its not the same as the OEM. But i stand to be corrected if anyone knows for sure. I believe JonTTT and Shantybeater have both discussed this in the past. has anyone ever even seen one in the flesh? At a show maybe?

Before everyone starts writing cheques I'd like to know a little more - what exactly is it made of? What is the headlining? and how exactly does it fit are the main ones. Do they fit well? I understand the OEM ones have the odd leaking issue? I'm assuming no-one on the board has one to answer these. I'd be very interested in principal, but I wouldnt be handing over that kind of money till I'd been able to find everything out. Plus, its not just the cost of the roof, its the rest of the money id have to spend on the car to bring it up to a standard that the roof deserves! New wheels, tyres, M gills, M mirrors,M front bumper, lowered suspension..... Hmmm.. this might become a long project....

I'll be perusing a few other boards i think..

From what I've read, the quality is OEM and better...Although the best person to ask would be the cause of this thread....since he has one fitted, it would seem a good place to start??

For reference, the BMW hardtop was £2000 inc. VAT, fitting kit and fitting back way back in 1999. As this is a new top, the price does not seem that unreasonable. The OEM top is plastic/fibreglass - you'd never lift it if it was steel! They shouldn't leak if the rubber seals are fine, but if your soft top leaks via any of the seals, then it is likely that a hardtop would too. I don't see why the Hamann one should be any different if they can manufacture them accurately. There is also a Wiesmann hardtop, which is more like the OEM one.

Cheers R.

The only pics ive seen seem to be German and Dutch! now THERE's a question - is there a SINGLE Hamann hartop fitted z3 in the UK? You'd think if there was, it would be an enthusiast on a forum somewhere... JonTTT seems to be the ultimate collector and he has definitely expressed an interest in the past, he might know someone who has one.

Thats interesting. Given that the Harmann roofs look so utterly badass, makes you wonder why they werent more popular if the price was essentially the same as OEM.

Back before I knew much abouts zeds there used to be a black M around our area with what looked to be a Hamann kit on it. It also had a hardtop on it, I wonder if it was a Hamann one? It looked very similar to the Hamann M on google images and we are not to far from autovogue so maybe it was one that came from there? Haven't seen it around for years though

If Autovogue will do them for £1500 on a group buy...I am a dyed in the wool groupie!!!
Is anyone going to ask if they're serious about the price, and what would constitute a "group" as ar as quantity ? Also, does that come with fitting kit, heated rear window, headliner and a partridge in a Z3 ?

I have just asked them for an all up price for 1 off and 5 off delivered. He is getting prices for me today or tomorrow. He is also checking it fits using the standard fitting kit.

Hardtop comes with defrost, roof liner and all fitting hardware.

Thanks for your effort Deano. I'd be interested in theory but I think I'd want to do some other stuff to my car first and see one in the flesh before I committed. So I VERY much hope some of you guys go for it so the rest of us can check it out!
The other problem is, if you had one, would you ever take it off? My car would probably cease to be a roadster...

I think I'd def have it on for winter...all 3 months of it....and perhaps if I organise a hoist in my garage to lift / lower it off / on...it would be a quick change for evening cruising, when the hard top might be more desirable...nice to have the options, and undoubtedly a plus in terms of vehicle value and saleability...it just looks the part.

If the price for 5 off is good I will post a group buy thread. If I buy one I want to move fast to be sure its here and painted ready for Silerstone.

They are quoting the part for roll hoops.
