Lowest mileage Z3?

Not sure what you'd do with it - if you drive it, you start to lose what makes it special.

You do wonder why the owner bought the car in the first place

So, just how much better would this be than my 61k miles (when I bought it 2 years ago) totally mint throughout '98 2.8 which I paid £3250 for?

How much!! That's ridiculous! Yes it's low mileage, yes I'm sure it's immaculate and yes I'm sure it would be the ideal car to buy, put away and forget about for 15 years but £16500???? Really! :?:

Cheers

It's only £2.75/mile in depreciation. It would upset the seller too much if he sold it for less.

There was an 18,000 mile 3.0 on ebay a few weeks ago, for £8495. It was Topaz Blue with a black/blue interior.

I went to have a look at it, and tbh it was not much different to my 54,000 mile 3.0. 50,000 miles is still nothing on a Z3.

It didn't sell. Or at least the listing ended with no sale. But it was very nice, l think it was worth the money.

a friend of mine brought and built a caterham after being diagnosed with cancer, be paid nearly 18000 for the kit, built it, drove it just 286miles then died of his cancer, the car still sits in the garage where he left it 3 years ago :( . sometimes circumstance leaves these cars to just gather dust, his wife wont drive it (ass too wide I think) but some day, some time, someone will get a real bargain 8-)

as for the z2.8 I suppose you have to ask - how much was it new.

Its worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, a great low mileage Zed to enjoy as a second car and cherish. You can still enjoy the car and keep the mileage low.

Its value depends on if you regard it as an old car, which would only be worth about trade value. On the other hand, what could you buy for that money? £16.5 k will not buy you anything of comparable performance or quality.

True, in terms of sports cars you could buy a not-too-old MX5, but a virtually new Z3 2.8 for the same money seems a better buy, particularly in the long term - talk to any MX-5 owner whose lower chassis rails have rotted out . . .

Or a mint Z3M and quite a few grand in the bank, I know what I would rather have!!! ( And by the way, are these cars not for driving and enjoying?).

There are plenty of people these days who will see £16,000 as small change. Lottery winners for example, their bank accounts heaving with money. If one of these people fancy a Z3 they will just pay the money for the best.
Then, any low mileage Z3 will be "worth £16,000".
A similar thing has happened with some old Fords, such as the Capri 2.8. They are cars that people aspired to, before they made their money.
Hopefully the Z3 will escape this kind of thing. It may be currently a bit too new.

The problem with these really low mileage cars is that their price doesn't reflect the ageing that takes place due to time rather than just mileage. In fact cars need to be driven otherwise they start to deteriorate. This car will probably want all its hoses replaced just for starters.

I assume you are joking.

Just looking at the BMW range on AutoTrader...

AutoTrader BMW Listings

There's a 32,000mile Alpina Z4 that I'd have first. The only problem I'd have is deciding where I'd go on holiday with all the spare cash I'd have.

The thing is, l love the Z3.

If l was rich, and an "as new" Z3 3.0 came up for £16,000 l would probably buy it. I know it's not sensible, but l wouldn't want the other cars l could get for the money.
As l would already have a Ferrari and maybe some other nice car in the garage.

Hi to you all out there. As desirable as the car might be we all probably need to look at it with pragmatic eyes. Cars do need to be used and not just stored even if up on blocks or axle stands. The oil and fluids need circulating and not just by firing them up and listening to the burble of the exhaust and then shutting it down.
Many of the owners are either working people or like me and many others - retired and possibly like me a pensioner and on fixed income.
I don't smoke,I drink only socially and do not have other expensive interests and my only sin is that I also run a 9yr old Volvo V70 D5 SE Geartronic.
Z3's are for using and enjoying and provided they are serviced and maintained correctly they will return pleasure beyond most owners first imaginations.
I have had mine since early May this year and I find it very hard indeed not to use it on a daily basis but when it goes out it is usually a worthwhile run out.
I am 69yrs young next month and did not buy my Z3 to just look at it. With currently 66,300 miles on board I am looking forward to many many years of late life pleasure with my 2.0 Auto Z3.
Happiness is a well kept Z3 and preferably running with the hood down - weather permitting.

If I were in the market for such a car I would be concerned about how it has been stored and treated - years in the usual damp garage, with an owner who keeps starting the enghine 'Just to see' is not a recipe for long-term health.

Even with good treatment, 6000 miles means that you could expect the usual problems - which should have been dealt with under warranty - to appear. I wonder if Sytner would like to give it a warranty for three years?

does it really matter these days what the little digital number is on the dashboard?? I have seen far more cars belonging to forum members that have maybe 80-90k miles that are immaculate, I would much rather have than these than some mega low mileage example which hasn't even been run in yet!! Just my thought...mine has just ticked over 60k and I bet its in better nick than a lot of lower mileage examples advertised for sale currently :!:

PS my daily driver is a Mercedes C-Class estate its done 98k, owned it for 4 years bought when it had done 60k been to France and all over in it with the family and its never missed a beat. Yet the 98k would seem high to some people but to me its knowing the history

My M has 56k on the clock, but don’t worry I’m quickly getting that mileage up to something more normal for its age

Here's another.

What a waste :(

You could buy and enjoy 4 Z3's for that much.
At the end of the day, as much as I love my Z3, this is an ordinary mass produced 15 year old convertible that is not worth 14 grand. I bet sytner didnt pay anywhere near £5k for it.
A low mileage M, maybe, but not a bog standard 2.8 with hardly any spec, I could equally walk up to numerous forum members cars and think they had done only a few thousand miles

Z3 2.8 Progress Journal (Mine)
Z3 1.9 Sport Progress Journal (Wifey's)

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

These cars that keep popping up at this money are ridiculous. I valued cars for 4 years for a car supermarket and believe me if Frank Sytner thought one of his staff had given anymore than a couple of grand for that they'd be looking for a new job. These cars will be well passed there best mechcanically, admittedly my Zed doesn't do many miles nowadays but it's done 90k so is well oiled. Imagine how brittle the various seals will be in that engine? As soon as it starts being used properly it'll use more oil than petrol.
This is typical of dealers exploiting people and ringing as much out of customers as possible. Main agents are the worst culprits for giving the motor trade a bad name. Would I deal with one? Would I hell as like! :head:

Hi all I am new to the world of the Z, have a 98 2.8 with 47k on the clock and it's a really nice one that's in great useable condition. :-) Totally agree with the above, all auxiliary belts on low milers like this will likely need changing and all the tyres will be 15years old so will be given an advisory at the next mot to be changed due to age related failure/perishing... Also I would be concerned about brakes being less than free etc etc... Best get a z that's been driven and loved!

The s54 M Coupe values have gone silly in the last 12 months and each low miler that comes on to the market seems to be advertised a few thousand more than the last one.

Z3s seem to sell for a lot more here in the US. '96 1.9s with 120-140k miles are still selling for $5000-$6000 regularly here. My Dakar Z with 63,000 miles was purchased in Sept '08 for $12,500. My Topaz Z with 19.950 miles was purchased in June 2013 for $10,500.
