Sounds excellent
I bought a new full face crash helmet at the weekend ready for Goodwood.
Maybe I'd better bring that to the Lakes also
Though I'll warn you... I don't make a great passenger

We could meet at Newbury if you like. Same place as last time.
Jay.

I stayed at the Gilpin house last year, very good. The only thing I will say though is dont park in thier garage round the back, as I damaged my car getting it in there, park up the road at the main hotel and walk back down the road (about 2-300 yards). There is parking outside on the road, but its restricted on times.

Heather and I hope to be there again on Friday evening at the hotel, but I can only make the Saturday "meander" therefore I will be on my own on the Saturday, so I have a spare seat available. if required

that down to almost 24 after yesterday's meeting here in japan..... somehow managed to convince myself (not much effort) and convince my japanese colleagues (much much more effort) that I really could not be in from Friday-Monday, hence no Lakes.....
somehow my pledge for a previous family commitment....the z is after all in integral part of our family.... manage to avert a double cancellation of both wales AND lakes....
we will definately be coming to the lakes, but may have to leave by sunday noon at the latest to quickly drive home, drop cases, swap cars and shoot of the LHR....not quite ideal and definatelly be shattered by sunday evening....but i am sure it will be worth it.

Just done the recce with Giles and Stu.
Obviously, I'm not going to give away any routes, etc., but what a lucky bunch you are . The routes are brighty damn awesome. Hope the weather is as good for you as it was for us.
Sorry I won't be there, hope you have a good time - and remember to stick to the speed limits

Lakes 05
Nice to meet you Pingu and glad you think the compact is 'quick' enough
Routes are looking good, weather was amazing - hope you didn't end up as red as I did yesterday (Bolton Abbey event on Pistonheads) - Mr. Lobster here
Gary - how could you forgo 500 miles in a day to go drooling over a Carerra GT and a F430 Spider?
More details later this week.

Looking good guys
Back from Japan, shattered big time but managed at least to check upon the board a few times to see the post event posts on the Wales cruize.... sorry to have missed that one but glad we can make it to the Lakes eventually.
Got back home yesterday, discovered a flat rear F1 , big nail, and BMW service guy told me to close to the side wall (1 inch) and that was unrepairable. so that will be visit to the tyre shop this week to get it sorted in time....
We'll be shooting off on Sunday morning after the dawn raid as I need to be back in time at LHR on Sunday afternoon.... bring it on!

04 vs 05
04 had I think something like 42 cars over the whole weekend, with a lot of 'organised' events.
This year has a smaller number confirmed to date (still subject to change of course) and will be a lot less 'organised'.
Last year had a large team of volunteers providing ideas and time to get things sorted out. This year has had a notable absence of volunteers, so I think that's a major factor.
I think the earlier Lakes events were very informal and some of the organisers of last year thought we ought to return to the 'friendlier' approach this year.
Giles & I have sorted the basics, nothing fancy. We have allowed people to actually spend a little time doing what please them (shorter drives on the Saturday and a few opportunities to stop en-route on the Sunday).
With a little more support and active participation the event will sustain or grow, but it does take time and effort to make things happen.
Looking forward to it after this weekend though.

I have the figures for each year somewhere in a file. We were running at somewhere around 16-26 cars for the first three years which worked very well, then in 2003 the numbers were down to 13.Alfie wrote:Do I get the feeling that's a little down on last year?
We were concerned the event was fading, so for 2004 we did serious pushing of the event. If anything we were too successful and in the opinion of the organisers 40 odd cars was too much.
The intention of holding the recent Mid Wales weekend was to take some of the pressure off the Lakes. Mid Wales was a dozen cars and for me personally it was the most fun I've had in the last 18 months (and that includes Homecoming in the US and the Swiss meeting). Everyone got to know each other, and I'm hoping the smaller numbers in this year's Lakes should have the same effect.

Can't make it.
I won't be able to come this year.
I have major car problems.
(see this thread viewtopic.php?t=5140 for details if you're interested)
Should be a spare room at KCHH now.

Shame I can't make it
Would have been nice to visit the UK again for the weekend, but have other obligations.
I am on for next year
Still same people as some years ago?
Cheers, Lody

Hi Lody, great to hear from you. Some of the same faces (bit older) and a lot of new ones. Sheep don't seem to change at all tho
Jules - Saturday starts 10 am from KCHH and finishes fairly early (about 3 or 3.30 pm depending on which return route you choose) to enable people to enjoy some of the lakes on their own (or go down the local like we will).

European mainlaind cruise
is later this year I think, with a lot of interesting routes too.
Do a quick search Lody, you should find it quite easily.
Glad to hear you're still Z'ing.

It's typical, just as everthing looks good for a weekend driving around the Lakes, something else comes up, which ultimately means I can't attend this event! Absolutely gutted as both the missus and I were both really looking forward to it. Oh well, we'll look ahead to next year.
Have fun everyone, I look forward to the pictures.
John.

Worried....
Took the Zed in for Inspection 1 last week.
No problem in that respect, but the chief mechanic tells me they discovered a little play in the front offside wheel. He says the knuckle joint needs replacing and he can't assure me that it won't cause problems on a long drive.....such as the Lakes VI......
Although they're fully booked for over two weeks, they're gonna squeeze her in when they've got any spare time during this week. So she's going in tomorrow, hopefully to be returned by Thursday.....
All sounds like it's gonna be ok, but not a lot of contingency.
Fingers and everything well and truly crossed.

I presume they ordered the part in already then?
Our Z's in Thursday to get the brakes serviced too.
Always worth making sure things are ok before a session in the twisties.

You ain't the only one who is Zed less after an inspection one. Charlotte went in this morning for the same but when i pointed out the the rear strong strut bolts need replacing (they got bent getting onto a car park on the rutted toad last year) he informed me that it was no small job as the whole rear suspension needs to be dropped to relieve the stress on the bolts to allow them to be removed It had never been a problem until a few weeks ago when the rear started squeaking and on inspection i found the bolts were now rubbing on the suspension They have assured me that she will be done by Thurs PM or Friday AM by the latest, so as with i have fingers well and truly crossed
Anyone getting "de ja vous" with Charlottes absence from the lakes last year :-(
I'm getting a slight clonk from underneath when I lift the accelerator pedal & there seems a tadge more play in the transmission. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'm thinking the worst like... cracked diff mount ? http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showth ... rame+welds
Hope to get it inspected & get the OK before Fri.
Lets hope our cars will be OK & the weather forecast is wrong.

From F'bridge
A1 to Ripon,
from there it's up hill and down dale,
route was mostly used last year if anyone remembers....
might look different in the low cloud with a 40 knot crosswind tho
