Cruise to Cold War Jets Open Day - Sunday 30th August 2015
Cruise to Cold War Jets Open Day - Sunday 30th August 2015
After the successful visit to the Newark Air Museum and the "VC10 BBQ" at the East Midlands Aeropark in 2014 Pete and I were mulling over a suitable event for 2015 . Thinking that Aeroplanes and Zed's always seem to be a very popular combination... How about meeting up at the Cold War Jets Open Day at Bruntingthorpe, just south of Leicester?
The next Cold War Jets Open Day is on Sunday 30th August 2015. The days are open to the public and the gates open typically at 9am, with the first taxi run at approx 11am. Admittance is £15 for adults, £10 for OAP’s and disabled, with accompanied children under 16 years old free of charge, all payable on the gate on the day.
A proposed itinerary could be:
Meet in the Six Hills Hotel car park (post code LE14 3PD) at 8:45 leave at 9:00, then cruise down the quiet back-roads to Bruntingthorpe on the East side of Leicester, if there is interest from those coming from the South we could also have a meeting point closer to Bruntingthorpe so we all arrive (and park up) together.
It should be a really good day out, providing our British Summer is in full swing by then, so bring a picnic, sit in the sun and watch some "Heavy Metal" thundering down the runway - and don't forget the ear defenders for those of a sensitive disposition
Just to wet your appetite take a look at this Cold War Jets Compilation from 6/5/12 at Bruntingthorpe (Copyright jetnoiseforever)
EDIT... link should now work https://youtu.be/uRHHaGyxU38
I'll keep a log of the names for everyone who is thinking of coming and will post a more detailed route closer to the event.

Leave the carpark at 09:00 and travel south down the A46
Continue southwards past the Thrussington and Ratcliffe on the Wreake turnings before taking the slip road for Quiniborough and the left turn at the traffic island for Queniborough
At the next traffic Island take the third exit signposted Queniborough
Once in Queniborough take a left turn signposted South Croxton / Tilton on the Hill
On reaching the A6047 turn right towards Tilton on the Hill
At Tur Langton turn right to Kibworth Harcourt
In Kibworth Harcourt turn right up the A6 before turning left for Saddington down Warwick Road
Continue onwards until you reach the A5199
Cross over the A5199 and you will see Shearsby Bath Hotel and Spa on the left hand side of the road
We'll regroup here, in the car park, hopefully at 09:45 / 10:00
This could also be a point where we could meet up with any others who have come from the before continuing on to British Aviation Heritage in Bruntingthorpe

Hi Micktus,
Have you thought of using a Travel Lodge? We booked one the other weekend and it was cheaper than a B&B and dryer than camping in this country.
Just looked and TravelLodge Markfield (5 miles from us) is doing a room for £36 on their "book now" saver rate.

Are these real places? its like I've slipped into an episode of Emmerdale....
Z3 2.8 Progress Journal (Mine)
Z3 1.9 Sport Progress Journal (Wifey's)
I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Hi,
I reckon we'll probably arrive about 9:45/ 10:00 then leave the Shearsby Bath car park at about 10:15.
Let's hope for at least a dry day tomorrow
Dave.
