Make me an offer!!!

Post by Jude »

I have a 2004 black Z4 that I reluctantly need to get rid of. It's a Cat D but I only found that out after having it for a year - it runs lovely (lesson learned about HPI checking even when buying from known sources). Over the last couple of months, I can't get the ABS light off, and there is a leak that means the passenger floor gets wet when it rains hard (not a roof issue). I have spent money trying to sort the problems out and can't afford to spend any more on it. My circumstances are changing and I need to get rid. If it weren't a Cat D I've been told it would be worth in the region on £4k. It's done 57,000 miles. It needs someone who knows the breed and can either afford to investigate further and sort, or work on it themselves. It can be local to either North Wales or Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire areas as I work both. Is there a Z4 fan out there who would be prepared to take it on and make me a (half decent) offer? Or can anyone give me any pointers as to what might be wrong with it and whether it's economically fixable? Thanks

Is the "known source" still in business?

If so get then to buy it back or go to small claims court and get a partial refund. (assuming it's a business)

It wasn't accurately described when you bought it.

Hi. Thanks for that. Source does know of the problem. Cat D not really that much of a problem for me. Apparently, even for a Cat D I paid a fair price. It's the ABS light and leak that I can't afford to investigate further.............hence the need to part company

You could advertise on Ebay or similar as 'Spares or Repair'

If the source knows of the problem what have they said?

The Cat D status you say is not a problem for you obviously now is a problem now you've decided to try and sell it.

If I was sold a car that I later found out was badly miss described like yours I'd be furious and would be taking source to court if it was a business.

And your statement "Apparently, even for a Cat D I paid a fair price."

This depends on what was wrong, and how it was repaired. Was it the source that made that statement?

You have been deceived my friend, do something about it.

I wasn't aware I had to put a price in the listing, sorry. WeBuyAnyCar were prepared to offer £4k until they found out it was Cat D, then they offered me silly money that would barely cover the cost of the full service and full set of Goodyear winter tyres it had at Christmas. As a CatD and with the two issues I've mentioned, I would take £2,500 ono I think - not much experience in these things, hence I mentioned offers
I did ask a local BMW dealer what price is would have expected to pay for a Cat D when I bought it, and they looked on some sort of system and it turns out that I unwittingly paid a CAT D price but didn't realise it. I really don't want any trouble this far down the line - I've had the car a year, and just want to draw a line under it. If it weren't for the ABS light and leak, the CAT D really wouldn't bother me as I'd keep it until it started to cost too much to run. But with that, and my change in circumstances meaning I need to transport two German Shepherds around - it just needs to go............ :(

Shall we play guess the engine size?

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I know nothing about Z4s but looking on ebay at completed listings I think your £2.5k is not unreasonable unless it was repaired badly or is generally tatty.

If it was on a Z3 the ABS fault can often be fixed for under £100 if you have a go yourself. And a leak fixed for nothing other than a few hours of your time. But if you're not that way inclined it's not going to happen.

I'm a bit surprised you're not generating more interest on here. You really should get some pictures up as that might be all it is.

Hi. Thanks for the comments. Car is a BMW Z4 2.2iSE - reg date 21st May 2004. Black with black roof and black leather interior. Recent set of matching Goodyear winter tyres and full service done by a BMW specialist garage. I wish I could "tinker" myself but as you will have gathered from my posts - I'm clueless! Will get pictures posted this week (as soon as it stops raining). Car currently with me in North Wales but can be back in the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire area within a week or so - my base is Heanor - halfway between Nottingham and Derby but I don't mind travelling (to fit in with work) for serious interest. It would be good to see it go to a competent owner............. thanks again
