I'm not anal about this but..........

This is where you can find out about valeting and detailing--washing, cleaning, polishing, waxing and other car care issues.

I'm not anal about this but..........

Post by Bonzo »

When I go to meets, get togethers or shows and the like I always wash and polish Z3lda inside and out beforehand. Fine, but when I eventually park up at my destination there are usually some flies splattered on the front and possibly tar spots on the wheels and sides, plus other blemishes. I have often seen guys spraying something on the bodywork and immediately polishing it off, usually doing the whole car. All I'm thinking about is getting rid of the stuff accumulated on the journey, so what are these sprays I see them using? They must work or they wouldn't use them, so what brand would any of you recommend, and does it remove any of the Super Resin Polish already used. Any other thoughts on this?

:cheers

I use rapid detailer from Autoglym. I don't do shows but when the Z3 only comes out the garage once every one or two weeks it has a coating of dust and the rapid detailer does a quick and nice looking job.

I tend to use it as a mild degreaser under the bonnet as well.

It's good stuff.

I use Meguires Quick Detailer on the Sprite, usually just to shine it up again on day two of a weekend show as the cars tend to get dusty sitting on a showfield all day.

The anal ones get out a brush and start cleaning the grass out of the tyre treads!

Cheers R.

I made many visits to Ford RS/Sporting Escort shows many years ago when those cars were my thing (still have a soft spot for them, have a look at this restoration http://bbs.rallyesportescorts.co.uk/sho ... hp?t=61935 - ). It really was beyond me how anyone could keep a car looking like it just left the factory. Some people used to trailer their cars to shows so they didn't spoil them driving them on the road!

I'm doing a lot of cleaning on the 2.2 project underneath but that's only because I want to examine the car thoroughly for damage/rot and I want to see what I'm doing by cleaning the dirt off. It will get a regular hoover and shine when it's finished but if ever I had the time to do it up and keep it as a show car I'd spend that time on something more interesting!

Thanks for the replies. I don't enter Z3lda into any concours competitions or anything like that, I just like to drive her, and for her to look her best!

So if the Autoglym detailer is a degreaser it must remove polish!

Talking of anal.. I noticed a lot of sandy grit in the fiddly hard to get into crevices and tried using little paint brushes.. after a torturous hour I suddenly remembered that my mate had an air line in his garage so shot round there and tried that.. very effective, very quick, and very easy.. grit all gone... luvvly jubbly!!

Easiest way is to cover the front end in cling film after you have cleaned it, drive to the show and then remove to reveal a freshly cleaned front end underneath :D

You should never use an airline on your fiddly little anal crevices, or indeed on any part of your body. :shake: Many people have suffered dangerous embolisms in trying to clean themselves up in this way.

I use this stuff.........after washing and waxing.......or a short run...

Gives a final sparkle and can be used on everything including windows.......
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing ... d_591.html

Protects the front from bugs and stone chips (allegedly)....... Strange stuff. You just spray it on and hold back from the temptation to wipe! Removed at next wash..
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/index.php ... ductId=983

And this on the wheels.......
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wheels-an ... d_197.html

PS: not that i'n a sucker for sales talk but this stuff...uses CG-specific lubricating agents bonded with acrylic crystalline and fluorocarbon polymer fluids to deliver a product that glides on like butter reducing friction and delivering an Ionic Anti Static product :D

.......and occasionally get time to drive her as well!
