Seatbelt retraction.

Post by yme402 »

Hoping one of the moderators can post this to the knowledgebase as I seem unable to post there....

Had an issue with slow retracting drivers seatbelt, and was becoming concerned it could be failing.
Before going any further, I purchased a box of spectacle cleaners from Tesco (£1 for 50 lens wipes!) and used 6 of them to clean the belt. I left it fully extended (hooked around the steering wheel) to dry out, and now it works perfectly!

Yes this can also be achieved by washing the belt with warm soapy water.

In many cases it cures a slowly retracting seat belt.

Today, just used one of those steam machines that you use on clothes and curtains and whatnot. I fully extracted the belt, smothered it with steam and quickly wiped it with a MF cloth. It retracts considerably better now :)

I sprayed mine with a silicone spray last week and it now retracts perfectly.

Only took me three years to get around to it!

Used good old Fairy Liquid on mine (diluted of course) and now for the first time retracts probably.

Really good suggestion this is. If your seat belts don't fully retract easily then please try it.

My seat belts looked perfectly clean but the driver's belt was especially slow to fully retract. Cleaned with warm water and dilute fairy liquid. Left to dry and now works like new.

Give it a go!
