Z3M soft top -relief pockets ?

Post by Z3Mroadster »

Hello!

Does the latest design of OEM new soft have a side relief pockets,or no?

Is this written down correctly?

"Early Z3 hoods were made with a relief pocket behind the main seam accross the car on both sides, later cars did away with this pocket".

"They were not fitted on the early cars and were added to reduce tension and wear on the hood when it was folded." and "This link" explains what the pockets do."

I know that aftermarket soft-tops usually don't have them - one of the reasons why aftermarket soft tops are cheaper.

Mine aftermarket one still has them and it was the cheapest available in the UK, £300 fully fitted. I have had aftermarket ones with and without and didn't notice any difference at all. Every roof I've had never wants to fold properly first time.

May I ask where you had your roof replaced? Mine is wearing thin!

First one on my old zed was from Soft Tops in Croydon at £325, but I think they are £400ish now. The one I had last year in December was from Jack Smith Trimmers in Swansea at £300. Both prices are supplied and fully fitted.

Great thank you. Any difference in quality? I'm much closer to Croydon than Swansea!

Same quality, both recommended. Croydon one didn't come with relief pockets, but I think he makes them himself so it could probably be done but would probably cost more.
