Re: Rear Spring and Bump Stop Removal (Early cars)
what the jetster said - no major disassembly required. I have two sets of spring compressors (the type with hooks on threaded rods) - one was cut down - quite possibly for the Z1.

Re: Half shaft
CV joints tend to rumble as they start to wear. Do you get any noise when moving? Can you check that all of the bolts that attach the inner CV joint to the diff flanges are tight? Any chance it's a wheel bearing? Although your car doesn't have enough miles for CV joint or wheel bearing issues. And t...

i think some lateral movement in a halfshaft is to be expected; they need to extend and contract as the suspension droops and compresses. Is one side noticeably different from the other?

I would like to make it clear that I have no firsthand knowledge of the ex-WD Z1 and am not making any statements or accusations of its condition... It is entirely possible to put an insurance write-off that wasn't properly recorded back on the road with just an MOT. The UK MOT just checks a prescri...

Interesting comment on FB about that car: "De Reyghere Emmanuel wheeler deelers is just fake, it was my car who they bought and restored, but in the program itself, they lied a lot and did not tell the truth about the past of the car. What I found on mine was that the pin was binding and the spring couldn't overcome the friction. I can't remember what I did - might have sanded it down very slightly and/or lubricated it. That seemed to have cured it.

I'm sure I sound like a broken record to some/most but.... has the fuel pressure been tested? I have read of a few fuel pressure regulator internal failures quite possibly caused by ethanol...

To the best of my knowledge you can’t actually get any useful information from that diagnostic connector. You can reset the service indicator in a conventional E30 as was as resetting airbag and ABS lights but in the Z1 the connector is pretty much of no value. Happy to be proven wrong. If you read ...

It's not unusual particularly as the weather cools. Water vapour is a normal part of a petrol engine's exhaust; when the exhaust system and engine are cool the vapour is able to condense in the exhaust system and is visible from the tail pipe for a short time after start up. Assuming your coolant le...

Re: Hard starting?
Have you actually checked it or do you just believe it to be OK because the car started fine over the summer?
For an engine to start and run it needs fuel, spark and compression. When fault finding it's best to make a minimum number of assumptions but just to start checking things methodically.

I've had few good experiences with Pirellis - they just don't seem to last on a low use car. Either they crack, are very prone to flat-spotting or just go hard. That is a very good thought. Had a trailer tyre blow out years ago because I ignored a slight vibration. If it changes in volume/tone as you load up the suspension going left or right I would have guessed a CV joint (in the driveshafts) or a wheel bearing as opposed to the propshaft?

The propshaft has 2 universal joints which are not renewable. ie. they don't have circlips to remove the + inner piece. There is a rubber dampener at the front end between the propshaft and the gearbox output flange, and finally there is a center bearing just aft of the front end of the rear sectio...

I’m glad the description on the auction site has been corrected and my comment against the mileage is no longer relevant; it was made against the original listing which looked like it was a cut and paste mixup with a previously auctioned chilli red Z1. Good luck with the auction.
