A set of the correct sized "threaded plugs" have been ordered from BMW Germany @ £7.50. The respective Torx screws are no longer available from BMW but generic stainless studs and washers are widely available.

I can't track down a part number for the coarse threaded brass chassis inserts for the rear undertray torx fixings (item 12 in the link). The bluetooth interface kit looks like a good solution, however the problem with the Z1 is the severe lack of usable space to fit additional ICE. The CD43 will fit the Z1, just. When (if) it fails the Blaupunkt Bremen would be the replacement of choice. I still have the original 30 year old speakers...

So ... one down, one to go. You can install the new liner after taking off the damper without removing the wing. The best way is to insert the outer edge of the liner into the rim of the wing first to avoid putting pressure on the wing and its mountings. I cleaned and reused the fittings with thread...

Rather than buy a complete light unit from BMW UK you can purchase a new front indicator / sidelight kit which include the plastic lens, rubber gasket and two new coloured plastic fixing screws from www.leebman24.de @ c.200 euros each plus delivery.

J I assume the "top plate" is structural to prevent twisting and leaking. I would have a chat with Aaron Radiators in Crystal Palace about a repair, they should be able to braze the cover back into place. I think a RHD conversion would be expensive and may ultimately limit the wider market appeal of the car given values appear to be much higher on the continent.

LHD on UK roads isn't a problem for me given the Z1isn't the fast thing on four wheels for overtaking a convoy of dawdling traffic.

With the new heat shields sitting on the bench goading me to fit them and break a manifold stud, or two, I finally put them away and bottled out by fitting heat sleeves over the two plug leads above the holed heat shield.

Derek, I have used a couple of specialists to sonically clean, rebuild and calibrate speedos for old Land Rovers and MG's. May be worth contacting them.
