I think it's the brakes as the noise stops / starts when I press / release the brake pedal.

Could it just be the pads moving in their guides / seizing caliper, - any ideas?

May be the problem i had with my 2.8 details here http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15902 Sounds very similar Could be - although it is silent on tick-over and only make s the noise when moving at low mph in 1st / 2nd gear. Definitely not a sqeal - just an intermittent low-pitch sqeak....

It's not really a whirring noise - more of a low pitched sqeak.

BTW - is WD-40 ok to use on a drive belt, might it cause the belt to slip? Cheers for the tip anyway.

Squeaking / whining at low speed

Hi,

My 3.0 is making an occasional squeaking / whining noise (from the front of car) when moving at low speed - it had never done it before my service at the stealer last month - any ideas on what it could be??

Thanks for the info - did you happen to notice any free play in your handbrake shoe expanders?

I only ask as I suspect it's these causing the annoying rattling on mine.

Cheers - it's just that the dash lights used to flash on / off when I adjusted the brightness. Headlight Switch

Hi peeps,

has anyone replaced their headlight switch?

When I twist my switch to adjust the dash brightness the dash lights flash on and off and it makes an awful grating noise like a rusty old spring being stretched!

Basically I have some type of rear knocking when the clutch is depressed after subjecting the car to heavy torque (basically a deecent amount of accel., or dipping the clutch in 1st or 2nd). Basically I get a knock from below my seat, which I guessed might be a bush at the propshaft/ diff junction....

I'm attempting a spot repair on 1 of my wheels and was wondering:

Does anyone know of a good brand of spray paint which matches the original BMW silver?

I've tried the Einszett wheel silver and its a bit too dull / slightly darker than the OEM silver.

Sounds like there is no 100% reliable test to find out which type of diff is fitted. Surely there is a part no or some sort of marking on the diff housing to distiguish which type it is?

Does it matter if LSD or Non-LSD oil is used, e.g. a LSD oil in a non-LSD or vice-versa?

Had work completed today. Tracking was a mile out (apparently)! so was corrected and tyres were replaced. Only driven a few miles home but the difference is incredible. anyway, there's a BMW specialist (Not HAC) at the same place as the alignment centre who came to have a butchers while she was on the ramp and he said he had a rear beam in OK, but might struggle to get the trailing arms as he said they're like the compact?? anyone? - reckonned it would be a 7-800p...

Went to a recommended tyre garage today. Front near side tyre showing classic signs of tracking being out. Booked in for tracking to be corrected and two new Eagle F1's too, hopefully will sort it out. Z has done 60,000 bang on. Rest of car is perfect just the tram lining thats bugging me! Good luc...
