Re: Anyone had a similar issue on Z1 not starting...
How have you tested the fuel pump? Mine was making all the right noises but not actually pumping any fuel and was subsequently diagnosed as the reason the car wasn’t starting.

Re: Z1 Will not start
You may want to check the vacuum hose that runs from the intake manifold to the fuel pressure regulator. This line was porous and couldn't create sufficient vac to allow the regulator to work which meant that starting was difficult and also caused an increase in fuel usage. Thanks for the tip. Had ...

Re: Z1 Will not start
Turns over fine, so I’m assuming it’s either a lack of fuel getting to the engine or a lack of spark. Didn’t have time to look into it, but I did notice that when the key goes from position 1 to position 2 there are 2 clicks in quick succession. Could these be relays / solenoids for the fuel pump /...

I’m having the same issue, but no 3rd party immobiliser or alarm fitted and I’m assuming that these don’t come with them fitted from the factory. Re: How long have you owned your Z1?
As I understand it the Super Unleaded Fuels will remain E5, so the answer seems to be paying a bit more at the pump.
A bigger concern is the current government crusade to get everyone in a battery powered car, although by 2030 most Z1 will be in the no VED and MoT requirements.

Re: How long have you owned your Z1?
Had mine since 2009, so around 12 years. In that time I’ve got married, moved out of London and had 2 children. Now they are growing up a bit, I’m hoping that now the are growing up a bit we can start to do more car stuff together. Car only has about 20k miles on it.

Re: Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB
That does look nIce but as TJS said I’m not sure it’s justified in a car that I only drive for fun, usually top down. With regard to installing decent ICE, there was a feature in one of the 1990s cat audio magazines where they put in upgraded component speakers in the front along with a small subwoo...

Re: Red Z1 for sale
Green rather than red with interesting history. 11k miles from new, originally UK supplied, recently sold to Germany and TUEV approved in May 2019, now back in the UK for auction ... with new tyres and no pre sale estimate "Original radio replaced..." didn't think cars past AL00500 had a ...

Re: Red Z1 for sale
The side repeaters I can understand. Mine doesn't have them and I don't want to drill the bodywork which has caused a few issues at MOT time in the past.
Given the asking price and claims about service history I'm surprised it's running mismatched tyres though.

Re: Insurance Dilemma
Thanks for the reply’s. On closer investigation the option of adding to my multicar policy was only calculating the additional premium until my renewal date, so the cost was really 3 x the quote. I managed to find a well priced classic policy with both guaranteed value and salvage retention at about...

Insurance Dilemma
Seems it’s time to insure my Z1 again. It’s been insured with a Specialist Classic Car Insurer since 2009 and the policy has increased slightly each year. As far as I can see the only real advantage of the classic insurer is the agreed value element of the policy. Just realised that renewal day is S...

Leaky Z1 and I don't mean the roof
Attempted to take the Z1 out a couple of weeks ago (it had been a while - due to work and family commitments I've not had much of a chance to use the Z1 so far this year), only to find that there seems to be a noticeable amount of fuel leaking from the front of the car :-( Looking like this weekend ...

Re: Z1 attendance at Silverstone Classic ZedFest 21st July
As Jet says, I will be going (Mr Green), will sort out my ticket tonight.
My only questions is whether I have to do anything else to be able to park infield and take part in the parade lap.

My first encounter with a Z1 was in 1990 at the impressionable age of 12. I remember being in the BMW dealership in Reading, where my dad was returning a E34 5-Series. I remember that to get around lengthy delivery times the dealership had retro-fitted the aircon option, although looking back the cy...

Would love to have taken the Z1 out this weekend. Sadly the next journey I will be making is to the garage for an MOT as this expired in December, as the combination of snow and work commitments mean that I didn't get a renewal sorted in time. This is compounded by the fact that I have temporarily m...

Thanks for all the reply's. Should have said that I'm running the original wheels with 225/45 ZR16 tyres. A search for some other stuff revealed (by complete chance) the manual, which does indeed say 1.8 BAR (Front) and 2.1 BAR (Rear). Having inflated them to these pressures they do look a little so...

Tyre Pressures
Hi Just wondering what tyre pressures everyone is running? Can't lay my hands on the manual right now, but planning on taking the Z1 to the Le Mans Classic next weekend and want to make sure the car is on top form for the long drive. Also, spotted a lovely Z1 at the Goodwood Breakfast Club last week...

Thanks. I think i did come across that link but, due to a moment of stupidity, thought that these we're just the numbers for Z4Ms sold in North America. As they were produced there I'm now thinking that this must be the total number produced worldwide, which makes it a fairly rare car. Thanks for th...

Z4M Coupe Production Numbers
Hi I'm currently in the market for a Z4M Coupe and have been trying to track down the production numbers for the car, but this info seems pretty hard to come by. Ideally I'm looking for total production number worldwide and total number of RHD Coupes. Apologies if the info is available somewhere, bu...

At the moment it is completely standard apart from an Alpine CD player and I was thinking about swapping out the speakers for something better/newer. I have to admit I'm not really sure what improvements are out there and my plan so far has been to keep it original. That said, If there are some reas...

Hi Can't help with supplying a light I'm afraid, but since the subject came up it seemed better to post a reply than start a whole new thread. I am after a passenger side or pair of rear lights as the passenger one has a crack in it. Phoned BMW and it's £560 for the pair. Is there a cheaper source o...

Seems that too much work and a very welcome holiday means that I haven't had much time for Z1 related things recently. The good news is that I got an MOT pass without having to add side repeaters, giving me almost all the info I needed to get a UK registration sorted out. The rest of the seemingly e...

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll post some pictures once I've had a chance to clean the car, it's filthy at the moment and the weathers not been very encouraging. Well, sort of - on both counts. Joined back in May when I started to contemplate a Z1 as a permanent secind car and have been lurking ever since. And the Z1 in question is hardly new, being a 1989 or 1990 model, it is new to the UK as I only got HMRC customs clearance last week. Based on my lurking ...
