Great to meet some of you, I too was sitting in the line up for the 1/4 mile for 3 hours.

Turns out Shanty's S54 is .1 of a second quicker than my S50 after some thorough testing ;-)

Worst 16mpg (to and from work in Brighton including a few runs to "let her breath" down the country lanes)

Turned out to be the starter motor solenoid. Switched out the whole unit to be on the safe side. Hard to find a re manufactured bosch unit now-a-days... Hmmmm personally doubt its a valve - it wouldnt idle as 'smooth' and the noise would be totally different. You would know if it was a valve Its deffo not piston slap either - slap makes the car sound diesel like and more of a deep metallic grumble. The vanos growl is very prominent thats for sure. ...

Here's my howto done on my ///M but will be pretty similar.

Got the parts nice and cheap from Euro Car Parts, the Bosch oil filter came with all the O rings and sump plug washer.

Well I called up today.... still not fitted the kit...

£19.73 for the priviledge of them not insuring the kit (but at least they still insure the car) pro rata (5 months left)

So that'll be £50ish per year...
