Thanks. Pretty certain it's not a sport chassis, but I have the VIN. Where would I find the chassis details?

Rear shock absorbers
I noticed a leak on one of the rear shocks the other day, and with n MOT coming up soon I think it's best replace them. I've a 1998 2.8 with about 67K on the clock. I don't want anything particularly sporty and will go for something similar to the originals - does anyone have any recommendations? Al...

Leak - Is this the A pillar?
After my car's been out in heavy rain (standing) when I open the passenger door a no insignificant amount of water dribbles out of the rubber moulding at the front of the door. Sometimes the passenger carpet is wet, but not often. The water comes out at about the level of the bottom of the window? I...

Touch up paint
Hi I've got a 1997 2.8 in Atlanta blue. I bought what I thought was OEM touch up paint, but it appears to be a much darker colour than my existing paintwork. Are there different shadings or have I done something wrong? If anyone could point me to a reliable product or supplier (both touch up and aer...

Automatic gear knob / Heater control lights
I'm down to those annoying faults that you never fix...... How do I remove the automatic gear lever knob? I posted a previous thread about the indicator light for the gearbox and I thought I'd fixed but no....I need to take the knob off to fully access the indicator bit underneath. I can lift it (th...

Re: Automatic gearbox position indicator
Thanks. Tried it and got access OK. Didn’t hit my self in the face 😅. The problem seems to be with the position of the light relative to the window. In some positions it’s not exactly “in” the window meaning that the light doesn’t show properly. Bulb seems to be working OK. Thanks for your tips. Ric...

Re: Steering grating noise and slipring
Well...... fixed it now - it was the slipring but not what I thought - when I dismantled the "tape" inside the ring had somehow come out from the housing and wasn't operating properly - that was the source of the noise. I did use the new one that I bought, but when I looked at the old one,...

Automatic gearbox position indicator
A minor problem, but an annoying one.
The light in the indicator for the auto gearbox seems to come and go. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I want to check the bulb, but I'm not sure how you get at it - any advice please?
Thanks
Richard

Steering grating noise and slipring
I've bought a s/h slipring to replace my grating one. Should I lubricate this in any way before I fit it? Anything I need to watch out for in fitting? I've watched some of the videos on YouTube and it seems fairly straightforward.
Thanks

Re: Spinning ignition barrel
Thanks - your solution worked for me too! Turned the "spigot" end of the barrel with a pair of pliers and that freed the barrel and I've been able to put the ignition switch back n the end and use normally. Haven't put the shroud back on yet - I might try to put in the new barrel now that ...

Re: Spinning ignition barrel
Thanks. I’m not sure that the Lack of the tool is the problem. I think that te whole barrel is spinning so that I can’t get the key into the correct position to effect the release. Not quite sure why this is happening.

Scraping noise behind steering wheel
Wonder if anyone can help? When I turn the steering wheel there is a scraping noise as it passes a particular position of the wheel. Happens turning both ways. Alarms yet again
A random problem seems to have developed on my alarm. It seems to "beep" at random intervals, and occasionally the siren goes off whilst I'm driving. Pushing the button on the (brick type) fob stops this. The central locking does not actuate when this happens. When I press the fob, the ala...

Re: Best sealant for hood?
OK - having undone all the bolts I then got the OEM butyl from local BMW dealer - £24 for enough for a couple of hoods - it comes on a 10m roll. Quite difficult to position, but you can do it with the seats etc. in - I did - but here's the rub - still leaking! Leaks are at both sides where the rear ...

Best sealant for hood?
I've narrowed down my problem with water in the boot to water getting between the fabric of the hood and the attachment to the body, where the "gunk" is. Does anyone have recommendations of the best sealant to use? I assume the old sealant all needs to be removed - any recommendations as t...

Me too!
Following my earlier post I invested in some Capt Tolleys. Seems to have done the trick. Flooded with a hose and no apparent leaks. Will monitor for a while during poorer weather!

I've got a similar problem, and have read the thread with great interest. Many thanks for all the suggestions and experiences. Can anyone tell me if the "brick" type remotes advertised on ebay for around £20 will work for my 1997 Z3 - the only part number I can find is 82 92 9 404 882 - but the only ones for sale are about £50

Re: Seen 2.8 zed in garage, but no remote key
I acquired my 2.8 last year, but there's no "remote" or - as far as I can see - no led - but there are the "microphone" sensors mounted in the corners of the windscreen - is there any way of determining if there is an alarm fitted? I'm not sure what I should be looking for. Build...

I'm getting a huge amount of condensation in the boot of my 1998 Z3 - is this usual? There seems to be no insulation on the boot lid. The car is stored outside, and there looks to be some water stains on the carpet in the boot, but I'm not sure if this is a leak or the condensation itself causing th...
