Fuse 31, 5A, hot all the time. If its blowing a 5A fuse there is a problem. Fitting a larger fuse, just lets the wiring cook a bit more before it blows too. You really need to get yourself a scanner. A cheap OBD scanner will sort your engine codes. If you want something to talk to the rest of your cars computers, you'll need something with BMW software. Yes you can bleed the ABS with INPA. With your pressure bleeder, bleed at 4 wheels as you normally would. Then with INPA, login to the ABS module. Under activate is a section for activating the ABS. It requires you to have the brake peddle pushed down, so a broom stick or similar is used to do this....

Buy a branded one. Make sure it is the right part number as they have different sizes for different cars.

I once purchased one off EBay and it turned out to be unbranded from India. Quality was poor and it never got fitted.

Usually, once you remove the bottom shock bolt, you can drop the trailing arm enough to wriggle/pry the spring out and back in again.

Not sure if there is enough room for a couple of spring compressors.

Yes this tread is about the 2.8 twin VANOS engine otherwise called the M52TUB28 engine. They are fitting the inlet manifold from a 330i or similar car that is fitted with the twin VANOS 3.0L engine (M54B30).

Yes it has been done. Usually they fit the Z3M center console so that the heater controls can be dropped down into the gauge area. Do a google on "BMW Z3 double Din" and you will get some photos and links.

Hi Tony

Yes its possible to run a new coax through the car and fit a new aerial.

Have you tried connecting a different aerial to the back of the radio whiles its pulled out and confirm that the aerial is the problem? No use running a new coax if the radio is the problem.

Set your multimeter to AC Volts (auto range) and spin the wheels, you should get a voltage from good sensors.

I use INPA and find it very good.

If I was to buy a scanner, it would be the Foxwell NT520 with BMW software. Covers the Z3's and does all computers.

Could it be that the rubber seals on the soft top side have compressed with age? I have heard of people putting rope inside the rubber seals to pop them out a bit and get better sealing.

A rough idle when cold and a good idle when hot is an indicator of a vacuum leak somewhere after the MAF. Have a good look at all of your boots, hoses etc for cracks and breaks. Alternatively, get a smoke test done to see where the leak is.

Suggest you start looking for a Vacuum leak between the MAF and he throttle body. Another likely area to check is the Crank Case Ventilation system.

Look at your short term fuel trims with your scanner. If they are >8%, it confirms that you are looking for a vacuum leak.

Sounds like the hinge points are rusted solid. You may have to put the car on axle stands and get under there to free them up.

The common fault is for the seat to lock in the fully down position. This is caused by the drive nut sticking on the end of the worm tread. Guess it could also happen in the fully up position. You'll need to remove the seat to see where the drive nut is on the worm.

The seat bushings can be replaced without disconnecting the wiring. Just carefully twist the seat forward and lay it with the back across the hand brake. The wiring is just long enough. Have done this on Z3's with standard and sport seats.

Check the left rear well in the boot for water. That's were the tilt sensor lives and it is right below the aerial. It the aerial grommet is leaking, then it fills the well with water.

The other common alarm cause is the bonnet/hood switch.

Also check out your crank case ventilation system. It can get blocked in the hose that goes to the dip stick tube from lots of short run in cold winter conditions.

I used Meyle front and rear. very happy with the ride.

There was a "M suspension" option available to the non-m Z3's when new. This suspension has about a 15 mm drop in height. We get a lot of Jap import Z3's down here with this option. Maybe this is the application for those sport units

The 3.0 L Z3's don't normally have the tail pipe flap as the engine has a nice tone at all rev's. If you have a flap, run your Vin number through RealOEM and see if the car should have one. Its located at the base of the oil filter housing, under the inlet manifold.
