Apparently this is normal that the new design thermostat will be shorter than the original.
I've had someone else confirm this and I've now fitted the new one and all works just fine!

Hi All, I have now just received the second incorrect thermostat housing in the mail! The first one was for the wrong engine type (never trust the ebay vehicle selector)!
