Re: Airbag light woes, please help!
Hi do the airbag and seat occupancy test lights both come on when you switch the ignition on and do they go off after completing the self tests? If so then you might be looking a bit to deep into this. Are the fault codes old stored codes perhaps ? My car had the passenger seat occupancy light on fi...

Re: High Idle fix.
Hi independent charged me £257.50 for the valve and £6.64 for the gasket. He had got me a bit of discount as well.
I suspect the price would be nearer £300+ from a main dealer.
Hope this helps
Regards Andy.

High Idle fix.
My Z3 1.9 had the dreaded high idle issue...1500rpm. To cut a long story short and replacing various parts which looked might be causing the issue, split intake pipe and perished vacuum hoses I also cleaned out the idle air valve still no fix. I eventually gave the car to a local independent BMW spe...

Re: Z3 1.9 Water Pump removal
Hi, I recently have had to replace on my 2000 1.9 the plastic elbow at the back of the cylinder head and a few months later the plastic pipe below the inlet manifold. The pipe below the manifold was a #w#t to replace as I did it without removing the inlet manifold. Looking on various forums the plas...

Re: Best engine oil for Z3M
I use Triple QX 5w-40 SynPlus Synthetic on my Z3 1.9. Okay I know it's not the M Sport engine but the specification meets the requirements of BMW long life -01 so you probably wont go far wrong. I think if memory serves me I purchase it from Euro car parts. Getting the correct spec oil for your car ...

Re: Z3 1.9 Water Pump removal
Good effort on the pump removal! I replaced the pump on my 1.9 last year...came out a lot easier than yours. I also replaced the timing cover gasket while I had the pump out which was leaking like a sieve. Had fun getting the crankshaft pulley bolt off but perseverance is required some times as I'm ...

Re: Brake Caliper and Pad Differences. Help Needed
Postage return costs were unfortunatly uneconomical to say the least so will be adding them to my scrap metal collection
but as mentioned in previous post very happy with the quality of the refurbished calipers.

Re: Brake Caliper and Pad Differences. Help Needed
Hi recently purchased x4 calipers for my 2001 1.9. I used RealOEM.com to find the correct part no's for my specific year and engine of car. I used after a bit of searching I used Autodoc uk to supply the calipers. The part finder on this site is very good for narrowing down your choices. All four ca...

Re: 1.9 misfire fix
Hi,
yes I believe it was!
Much obliged for who ever posted on the forum.
Also just replaced the passenger seat bushes which were badly worn.
Mrs T now a lot happier that the seat doesn't move forward and back under breaking.

1.9 misfire fix
My 2000 1.9 developed a bad misfire at 2500 rpm and only when warm. Having owned the car for nearly two years and replaced most sensors, vacuum pipes, injector service, spark plugs and checked for intake leaks/splits and no fault lights or codes must admit I was getting a bit desperate. Decided to d...

Re: instrument cluster replacement
An update on this one. Replaced the cluster and swapped the coding plug. Have now got a fully working cluster and fuel gauge/the original fault. Mileage is correct but with tamper dot on which I can live with. Only advice I can give is make sure the replacement cluster is as close to the production ...

Re: Windscreen washers variable output?
Found on my much neglected Z3 that the supply pipe from the reservoir had had a bodge repair at the bonnet hinge area where the pipe has to curve and this was causing the washers to fail. They wouldn't have passed an mot. Common problem I suspect. Also worth checking that the reservoir filler neck h...

Re: instrument cluster replacement
Thanks for your reply Motco. As I understand it the mileage is recorded in the coding plug? Just wondering after looking at various pictures of disassembled clusters if it would be possible to swap the faulty gauge over with a known working gauge. Looks fiddly but doable perhaps. Suspect I will end ...

instrument cluster replacement
The fuel gauge on my 2000 1.9 is faulty. I've traced the fault to the gauge itself. Basically if you tap/thump the housing next to the gauge it works. Have had the cluster out/dismantled and tightened up all the contacts on cluster and the the connecter at the rear but no joy. On searching the net t...

Thank you
Just to say a massive thank you to all who have posted on this forum and especially the knowledge base over the years. I bought a very unloved X reg Z3 1.9 during lockdown last year as a project and yesterday it passed its mot with no advisory's. This car had probably every Z3 issue going on it and ...
