Headlight mount and clip
Hi Z1 folks, The little metal 'hook' that's built into the bulb mount that holds the edge of the retaining clip is mostly broken off. It's very hard to get the retaining clip to stay clipped, and therefore my headlight does not work. Is that headlight mounting part available anywhere else (other E30...

Both buttons should work.
If the outside button on the right hand side isn't working, it could just need a few adjustments of the mechanisms behind the button.

The pax seat is tricky, but once you figure it out, it's not too bad. I've had to remove/install the seats a few times.

Re: need new body panels
Thanks Hank! Most of the vendors have said "sorry, no longer available" but 1 or 2 in Germany said BMW planned production for more panels is scheduled for June. so it sounds like it might be happening. That sounds promising! Let us know what you find, I may have to pick up a spare set jus...

Someone on the Z1 Facebook group said that BMW was producing more panels.
I have no verification of that, I think the posts were in French, but it looked like they were 1500 Euro each panel.

I'm not an expert, but if the car lets you crank the motor AND you have spark, I can't imagine how else the alarm system would prevent it from actually starting.

How old is the petrol? Perhaps the fuel has turned if you didn't use a stabilizer?
Good luck, I hope you find the problem.

Question about the speakers
I have the original “Z1 Audio System” which is just a branded Sony unit with an external amp that only appeared in the first 200 cars before BMW switched to other radios. Interestingly my car is also a UK build. it sounds better with the newer coaxial speakers, but still very distorted and serious c...

I used one of these - plugs into the CD changer port so you select CD on the headunit and it toggles between the CD slot and and the Bluetooth unit. Works really well! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-Music-Handsfree-MP3-CD-Changer-Adapter-BMW-E36-E46-Z3-Business-Radio/223506467460?_trkparms=ai...

Just to follow up.. looks like the footwell speakers are 5.25". I just happened to have a pair of BOSS 4ohm 5.25" coaxial marine speakers on the shelf. They were a perfect fit -- screwed right into the existing mounting holes (but needed longer screws). I left the super crappy 2" twee...

Question about the speakers
Hi folks.
Three questions.
1. If I want to replace the speakers in the dash, how can I access them for replacement?
2. What size are the speakers in the (1) dash, and (2) doors?
3. What ohm ratings are the speakers for the VIN<200 "Z1 Audio" radio/amp?
Thanks.

Re: Need help diagnosing passenger door latch fault
Ok folks, I was able to get both my door problems fixed. For the passenger inside latch that wasn't working, the problem was what people suggested above -- the adjustment behind the removable panel behind the carpet next to the seat. Seat removal helped a lot here. Tip #1: Moving the seat to a mediu...

When repairing my door latch/button issues, we noticed one of the tabs was broken. We just used WB Weld to re-attach and it worked great.
How badly are your tabs broken, and do you have all the pieces?

Re: Need help diagnosing passenger door latch fault
Ok, folks, need more help with the door latch. I took the car to a local independent shop that specializes only in BMWs (we've taken our other BMWs there and it's a really great shop). The tech who was working on my car knows E30s phenomenally well, and is knowledgeable about most 80's BMWs, so I tr...

AUX input for SONY XR-7302 head unit
Does anyone know how to connect an AUX input to the SONY XR-7302 Z1 audio system?
Also, do all Z1s have the harness to hook up the CD changer in the boot?
What SONY CD changers are compatible? I looks like it was a 5-disc changer. Are 10 the Sony 10-disc changers compatible?
Thanks.

I have a few more new owner questions for the group. These aren't too important, but I'm curious about them. 1. What some easy mods are available to boost the power of the motor a bit? ECU tuning? I do not want to go as far as race cams or bore/stroke or exhaust mods. 2. I want to install a stealth/...

Can you please explain where this is? Is there a guide page on https://www.bmwz1.org/ that shows this?Outside next to the seat is an inspection hole. There you can adjust the length of the linkage.
Thank you.

Need help diagnosing passenger door latch fault
Hello folks, The passenger side door latch is not opening the door (open or close). I can hear the linkage operating, and when the door is closed, pulling the latch does release the locking pin (loud pop sound), but the door does not operate. The door operates fine using the outside door button. Dri...

Ok, I'm looking for the two gas struts that hold the trunk open. BMW Part#: 51242290535
I'm fine with paying $50 each for those, but these seem like pretty generic gas struts.
Has anyone found a generic replacement strut that works? Thanks.

Do some BMW dealers really have Z1 parts or panels?
I'd never expect them to have any left, especially since the Z1 was never sold here.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself to this community of Z1 owners. Last week I bought @Budget M3's black Z1 (VIN: 00140). Thank you Mark! (who also goes by "ZFirst1"). I've been obsessed with these cars since I first saw a green one at the Greenwich Concours in Greenwich, CT...
