Re: Z1 Side Repeaters
Thank you for all your replies. Unfortunatley I didnt get them until i had already fitted the lights on Saturday am! I still wasnt sure if the forward or back position was correct for original UK cars (mine went to France originally) so in the end I offered the lights up and decided where I felt the...

Z1 Side Repeaters
I have finally decided I need to fit the correct side repeaters to my Z1 rather than the 'Heath Robinson' LED's that I fitted 'temporarily' 13 years ago! The current ones are wired to the rear lights (as access was easy) but i would like to connect the repeaters correctly. Does anyone know where the...

Indicators packed up!
Having got the car back on the road after the door belt snapped the indicators (inc hazzards) have given up the ghost! Worked fine friday am then driving home after work nothing! Checked the fuses (no 4 if iam correct) and all ok. I am assuming a relay but where is it? I want to test the system to f...

Dont know what i did right but the interior handle now works (most of the time) and the outside button now closes the door which it never did.
Fixed just in time for the indicators to pack up! So now i need a wiring diagram see new post!!!!!

Re: Changed door belt
Unfortunatley I didnt photograph the positions. More haste less speed!!! Most of the horseshoe shims were still on the studs. Only the two top ones (on the socket head bolts) fell down and I cant be sure if they were both on one bolt or on two. As mentioned before the numbers witten next to the stud...

Re: Changed door belt
Worth a try! I have put the shims back as they were, but the markings show 4mm for one fixing and 2mm for another and there were only 3mm of shims on the 4mm and none on the 2mm. I have tried the 4 and 2 I could try variations on the 3mm shims I had. The fact it locks when tightend up would suggest ...

Re: Changed door belt
After another day of tweaking still no joy. Tried adjusting everything I can think of. The door seems fine when not powered but as soon as I try with the fuses back in I get the following: Door drops to open fine Pull internal handle. Window lifter guide rail moves to semi upright position Handle re...

Re: Changed door belt
Yes as long as we go throuhg all the things not to do first! Its the drivers door, External button was always dodgy and never closed the door! (i know i should have fixed that a long time ago!) Everything seemed to work before the belt snaped (external button excluded) To the best of my knowledge (s...

Changed door belt
A snapped door drive belt has meant a Saturday of stripping down and replacing the belt. All went well untill the door was refitted! The door will lower nicely but when I use the inside handle to close the door the handle stays in the out position and the door won't rise. The belt tightens and slack...

Bolts for folding roof
One of the bolts from my roof frame has sheared.
Does anyone know if these are available from anywhere? I have been trying on Ebay with no luck.
My friendly local BMW would supply me with one for about £5000 but this did include the rest of the frame!!!
Thanks
Gary

Rear brake discs on Z1
Just noticed the padget rear discs i have fitted to the Z1 seem to be too small a diameter.
BMW quote 282mm dia for the pre 90 Z1's and padget and all the other aftermarket ones seem to be 258mm dia!
Anyone else know of a decent alternative to spending £156 from BMW?
Thanks
Gary

Paintwork bubbles
Just been preparing the Z1 for its MOT, taken a while this year as a binding rear brake meant a complete caliper refurb, and just noticed there were what appeared to be bubbles of wax or water on the bonnet. When I went to wipe them off I realised this was actually bubbles in the paintwork! It only ...

Cracked N/S wing
Getting into the car this morning I noticed a crack in the front wing! It starts near the bonnet just behind the front wheel and is making its way out across the panel!!! I dont have a clue how it happened. The only thing I can think of is I hit a large pothole the other evening on the way home and ...

Tear in seat
The car is quite high mileage (kilometreage?) @ 156k and the edge of the seat had worn quite thin. Water had got thro a seal on the old hood and dripped onto this point and as I got in the nubuk tore (maybe helped by a rivet on my jeans?). Yes I would replace both seats if I was going to do it prope...

noise from rear
I was right in that I was wrong! It was throwing its voice! The noise is coming from the engine but here's the bit that confuses me, it doesn't change pitch or sound along with engine or road speed! Any ideas what rotates at a constant rpm in the engine bay that could make the sound?
Cheers

Noise from Rear
This morning I have suddenly had a strange noise coming from the rear of the car. It is a slow scraping, whining, grinding sound that happens if the car is moving or not! It changed at one point to a sound that was similar to a belt slipping but this might just have been the belt slipping! On Saturd...

Thanks for the help. I have decided to get it done at the company that are doing a hood for me on my '68 Alfa Roundtail Spider. BMW have just told me my front butterfly bushes are worn!
I have never heard of any bushes refered to like that.
Does anyone know what they are and how easy they are to change?
Thanks

I have yet again snapped off my indicator stalk! It gets caught in my trouser leg when I leap majestically into the car (must stop doing that at my age!)
