S50 Z3M firing on five cylinders
I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. My S50 Z3M Ok for ten or twenty miles then tickover gets lumpy. Then starts firing only on 5 cylinders. Plug looks sooty. Not oily I'm pleased to say. Then I change spark plug on offending cylinder & Ok for about another 20 miles. Then the same happe...

My M is only firing on 5 cylinders. Spark plug, coil & compression is OK
So I'm going to buy & fit new OEM injector to that cylinder. Is it essential to recode it ?

Hi

Halfords site says - Castrol Edge 5W-30 M Oil
Euro car parts says - Castrol Edge FST Engine Oil - 5W-40. This has titanium in !

Garage has determined that misfire's due to a faulty coil pack. The bulk head end one that is more inclined to get drips of water on so most often packs up.

Re: Best spark plugs for Z3M S50 ?
Probably not a faulty one.
The plugs have done 10s' of k's of miles & they don't last forever. Someone said it may be the coils.
Getting it checked out tomorrow by local garage. The have code reader that will let them know which cylinder misfire is on

Hi Robin, it's a long time since we chatted on here, just wondering is the stiff clutch is due to an age thing, us not the car, stick with it, a zed 3M is better than a zed 4m because if the clutch is softer it's obviously designed for the older driver. LOL. please no disrespect for the Z4M divers ...

Stiffness of Z3M clutch pedal versus Z4M
I've been getting some minor left knee problems. My everyday driver is an auto. The knee problem seems worse after I've driven my Z3M. The Z3M clutch pedal is quite a heavy action. For those of you who've driven both then did you notice if the Z4M pedal action is lighter than that of the Z3M. If so ...

If the viscous is shot...the fancan be stopped easily while the motor is running...to test this, start the motor, and use a rolled up newspaper and put it in the way of the fan...if it stops...the viscous clutch is US'd...get another one... Here are the areas you must check:- 1. Viscous clutch on mechanical fan...if it's stuffed, it will spin easily and freely by hand. If stuffed...replace clutch. 2. Waterpump impellers broken. This prevents coolant being circulated....Replace waterpump. 3. Thermostat stuck in the closed position...ve...

I'm surprised how often my radiator fan's comes on even when not queued in traffic.
I even put the heater fan on directed up the windscreen to lose engine heat without heating me, but no difference.
Does anyone else find in warm weather their radiator fan is on for most of the time ?

My rear tracking is out. Tows out rather than in.
The chap at the tracking centre said Z3 rears can't be adjusted.
Does anyone know if this is correct?
If so is there a work around?

Diff mount broken on 2.3
I''m just getting round to having my spot welds in the cross member & boot mended.
I just saw this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85UfQYmVR_8
Didn't realise the diff bracket could break on the smaller engined Zeds.
Something worth checking for early signs of failure.

I would say it was badly executed if they were fixing a problem but ignoring the reason why it failed, so that it happened again. I'd take back to BMW looking like that!
