I pretty sure we don't! I drive a 1.9 and I'm quite definitely not a hairdresser. When I bought it new in '99 I had a choice between that and a 2.8. I couldn't afford to insure the 2.8... As far as the plastic windscreen goes - who cares - the idea is that you put the roof down and have NO windscree...

Only reason I ask is because I normally take it to a dealer 90 miles away that I know very well. I'd rather they did any servicing. I just don't want to have to make two trips if I can avoid it. I use a local BMW approved place for anything easy like MOTs. I'll probably get them both done together -...

I don't have seat heaters

They are good though - I had them on a Volvo in Sweden in December - I had to wear a ski jacket over my suit it was so cold - but I did have a nice warm bum - a very odd sensation!

I also live in the cold, dark, North

Brake fluid change light on - to change or not to change?

The little clock symbol on the service indicator has just come on, indicating that the car would like its brake fluid changed. My question is, is it worth taking the car in just for a brake fluid change when I'm already down to 2 green lights and it will be going in for an oil service before very lo...

Depending upon whether you have a Z with a double skinned top, you will probably get different answers about how much difference a hardtop makes. Mine doesn't and with the hardtop on it is much much warmer. It will also make a difference if you keep the car in a garage - if you don't it's gonna be m...

Glerk! Suzy, surely you're keeping you car in a garage for that? I have a '99 1.9 and used to be with Direct Line for a whopping £580 - I switched to Admiral for £605 with guarenteed no claims (Direct Line wanted an extra £100 to protect my no claims!). I'm 33, car is kept off the street, and I have...

Not that it is likely to help with this battery - sounds like it has already gone to battery heaven (or hell?) - but I found something interesting with the battery on my 1.9. The battery is not "sealed for life" as I first thought - it actually has plugs so you can top it up - they are jus...

I tried ScratchX on my bonnet, which has a couple of pretty deep scratches in the laquer, but although I may have reduced them, they have not gone yet. The info on the tube was not tremendously useful - can anyone point me at some info on getting the best out of this stuff. Thanks.

Thanks Andy. I just had another look at RealOem.com and the diagram of the Throttle Housing Assembly shows the ICV quite clearly. Now I've got my head around the orientation of the diagram, I can see that it bears more than a passing resemblance to what I'm looking at. Also, the connector is in the ...

I should have pointed out that online was the cheapest way with Admiral, but I doubt you will be able to fill everything in on the web. I had to give them a call after fillin in most of the details.

I would thoroughly recommend Bateman BMW, Grange-over-sands, Cumbria . I bought my Z3 from them new and take it to them for all major servicing. I live 90 miles away, but my dad has been a loyal customer for about the last 25 years and they have always been good. Compared to what I have read on here...

My parents bought me a personalised plate when I got my Z. I deliberately went for one that is not so obvious - actual reg year, my favourite number and my initials - to most people it will read like an ordinary plate - only those that know my initials or know that numbers 1-20 are now only issued t...

Once the frosts are gone and the hardtop comes off, the roof goes down, even if I have to put the heater on. It only stays up if it's wet or I'm on the motorway for any distance. I only have the one car (my Z), so I can't comment on insuring multiple cars, but I too am with Admiral. I decided to protect my hard-earned no-claims bonus and Direct Line (whom I had been with for years) wanted an extra £100 for it. Admiral only wanted about £30 for guarenteed no-claims, with the ...

Don't want to be a spoil-sport, but....even with the ///M badge removed, you're still 'pinching' one of the strongest visual definitions of the ///M Roadster and putting it on a car that isn't. I'm dubious. I have an ///M steering wheel and gear knob in my 1.9 (it came with them from new!), and I l...

The alarm will draw current all the time, and if the car is sat idle, then it will eventually drain the battery. This is what did for mine. The battery was fine when the car was being used every day, and would restart the car after a decent run, but after a few days it wouldn't even turn the engine ...

Strange noise from under bonnet with ignition on

I have a '99 1.9 (M44 engine) and I was checking my cars vitals the other day and decided to start the engine with the bonnet up. When I turned the ignition to position II, I got a continuous clickety noise like a transformer gone bad or something arcing over. It showed no signs of stopping after a ...

Never ever ever put your Z3 through an automatic carwash, especially if you have metallic paint. I only take mine to a jet wash and give it some nice warm soapy water. I have a hardtop for mine and it goes on for the coldest months. The main benefit is the heated rear screen, but it also offers added security and a bit of warmth. Makes me appreciate having the top down just as soon as it fairs up for 5mins! I'll admit storage is a pain - the dealer I bought it fro...
