Hi Chaps, Thanks Jamal, as ever for getting this organised. I have just booked my room for the evening and yes please, count me in for the tour. I shall probably be in the CSL, as that is the one that I was taking to Gaydon, but I hope that is OK? I think I should squeak in on the tour as I have a z...

Oooh er Toni - that sounds a little ambitious! I am no welder, but I do know how well engine oil burns. I'd want to see the repair sorted from both sides and ground off flush again if it were me. Can you imaging welding a crankshaft counterweight to the sump and then trying to start the car

Good to have it back Pat, I am sure. I recall the rock very clearly and I think it is actually very lucky that there is no body damage. It must have squeezed under the nose cone and chin strip with fractions of an inch to spare and that bodes well for the undertray too. It is still surprising that, ...

All that makes sense.
If you need to borrow an engine hoits Pat, I have one that is not (thankfully) in current use, so could be used to hold up the engine for whatever time it takes to effect the repairs........

It is definitely early on in the car's life. Look at the chunky tread on the OE fit Pirellis and the lovely dark colour of the Nubuk - mine didn't even look like that after I had cleaned, de-greased and recoloured them!

Dear Fred, I just wanted to add my comments and thanks for the tour. We arrived home safely on Wednesday night, after around 1950 miles, through which the Z1 performed faultlessly, although it did seem a bit slow on some of those uphill sections on the way up to Mont Louis :( The tour was great and ...

Hi Pat, It was a pleasure to spend some time with you and Sneezy over the weekend and I am sorry that the sump did indeed end up being damaged. I'm not 100% sure about the Z1/E30, but struggled greatly replacing the sump gasket on my 3.0csl a few weeks ago (only to damage it while fitting I fear and...

Hi Scorpion and nice to see you back here. I approve! The 'vette is a lot more tempting a proposition than a rotten old Dart - you did the right thing. Classics need to be cars that you can jump into and turn the key to enjoy, with the "just add petrol" method. An old Daimler is never goin...

For info, the servo is fine as is. It is the master cylinder that you change for more beefy pedal feel (along with everything on Jamal's list, of course :D ). I didn't change the apportioning valve, located by the diff as I seem to recall. My Z1 stops as if it has hit a brick wall and doesn't seem o...

I am pasting news of a Car Club organised trip below, to Munich to celebrate the BMW Centenary this year. I've put my name down, as I think it will be an excellent trip and am just trying to publicise it here. I appreciate not everyone is a member of the Club, but £45 solves that problem very quickl...

Hi Guys, I can't help thinking that I should know this already, but can someone tell me if an E30 M3 steering rack is a straight replacement for the Z1 (obviously higher geared), as in will it fit to the front subframe without any cutting, welding and general mashing about? Just an idea I have in mi...

Interesting top-hose modification there - but then it is an expensive part. Also, slightly clumsy A/C fitting by the look of the pipes to the rear of the engine compartment. Nice opportunity if it is real and the rightful owner is the person selling. I wouldn't fancy buying a car from the Dominican ...

Saturday was great - the day of Senna's photo. I was there in the CSL.
Sunday was unremitting sheyite I am afraid. Cold, wet and windy too. We went in the 911 and were wet and cold through by 2ish. I went home to watch a very exciting Hungarian GP on the Humax.

There, that's got your attention  My MOT tester came out with a face as long as a fiddle and said "I really don't like to do this, but it's a fail". Turns out that one of the brackets at the offside end of the (aftermarket) rear exhaust box had fractured and it was therefore unsuppo...
