They weren't standard, but do a good job in reducing buffeting. Clear perspex or the BMW mesh type are available. I personally prefer the look of the clear perspex type. The mesh type to me looks a bit of cast off ladies underwear.

Around 5800 is enough really I think to get into the peak torque revs for the next upshift. I don't hammer it that much very often, sometimes, when opportunities arise I like to drive swiftly but smoothly,

The cure for that is to use the car. Driving it on a regular basis will also prevent possible brake caliper seizure, parking brake seizure and keep the battery charged.
