I intend rebuilding my diff during the winter, but as spares are very limited, and apart from bearings, are unobtainable.
With this in mind, does anyone know if our diffs are common to other vehicles in the BMW range. I believe a torsen LSD is fitted.
Many thanks

Eventually fitted my side braces. That's everything now, front and rear braces fitted and the lot tied together with the side braces. The car feels a lot tighter, scuttle shake and tramlining appear to have been reduced and are not noticeable. Running out of jobs to do.

Re: First Test Drive of a 2.8 Z3
The question of clunky and notchy gear change continually rears its head. This is relatively easy to cure. The standard ZF gearbox as fitted to the larger engined Z3s has an inherent design problem. The gearbox shift pins being situated on the top of the box can be starved of lubrication, this is wh...

Just been looking at the Z4 forum, and couldn't see any reference to the clunking or knocking which is apparent on most Z3s. What is the difference? what has changed? are any parts common to both or is the Z4 completely different? ie gearbox differential etc.

Hi all. I also have this problem, but in my case I think there's to much backlash between crown wheel and pinion. Hi All. Since changing my G/box shift pins bushes and clutch, I have now replaced the slave cylinder hose, and that troublesome little valve, and after a fairly long test drive, I can honestly say it is one of the most rewarding things one can do to a Z3. Yes I am certain my car suspension is fine, its total mileage from new is only 34000 miles. All the tyres are new this year, and the car has that tight new feel about it. I can live with this shortcoming but I feel more body stiffness would help.
