Re: Needless ritual?
Some "rituals" do more harm than good. I don't think yours will do any harm. I always warm the engine up slowly before giving it the beans. That's why I don't do the "dawn runs" and I like being at the back on cruises  . I don't see the point of engaging ALL the gears, but...

I removed one valve and not the other before I realised that it was the bottle filter. The one sans the valve is a little behind the other in spraying but not so it would bother you so I haven't got round to putting the valve back. My only concern would be brake fluid changing. It's dead easy with normal non-ABS dual circuit brakes, but I tried to bleed my son's Z4M Coupé brake system after changing the flexible hoses, and it was very difficult. Eventually we got Phil at CPC to do it with his electronic gear for controlling t...

Re: bmw z3 bmw inspection11
Because the oil filter is so easily accessible without removing any shields or even jacking up, you could consider a pump to suck the engine oil out. I know, I know, to some this is an heretical suggestion - too much residue remaining, etc., but frankly you'd be lucky to get every last millilitre ou...

Mine has neither a throttle cable nor a clutch cable. I don't have a problem with hydraulic clutches but FbW throttles are the Devil's work. My Westfield has cables for both and non-servo brakes and non-power steering. That really is intimate contact!

I removed my clutch delay valve - or at least my indie did for me. It makes no difference to the clunk but does improve the control. If only it had a proper cable throttle it would be perfect.

The car has a tendency for clunky gearchanges. Mine is at its worst when I'm trying to drive like a granny and at its best when 'pressing on' and changes are quick. If you're unfamiliar with the marque perhaps that's all it is? In a similar vein, the diff whines - at least Torsen diffs do. TADTS (th...

If the ABS/DSC etc. lights come on and stay on, it means either that the system has identified a fault or that something external has happened to “fool” the system into believing it has identified a fault. My understanding is that rotating wheels (which are jacked up and free of the surface) with t...

Have you had the discs off to take a look at the handbrake shoes? They do degrade though and can fall apart. I recently noticed my r...

Does anyone know whether a car with a Torsen differential should be brake tested on rollers or not please? Mine just scraped the handbrake efficiency today at MOT - the tester used the Tapley in-car tester instead of rollers because he didn't know for sure.

It would seem so. He read the old failed coding plug and retrieved c.42,600 miles, and then made a mirror of that which he then transferred to the second hand coding plug with 125,000+ on it. When replaced into the car the mileage showed 45,090 which must have been in the internal memory. The tamper...

I gather that there's between three and five memories in the car and key. You can simply reset the cluster but anyone with diagnostic tools can see that it's been done.
