One of Ebay's finest used instrument clusters in an attempt to fix my EEP_1 problem. Unfortunately the replacement has a higher mileage than my car so I need to try to synchronise it with my on-board log. It was only £30 so it's a bit of a punt.

These two different issues. The CDV is a pain because it damps quick but tiny clutch pedal movements such as we all make when manoeuvreing, but the 'mod' suggested in the link apparently makes the throttle behave more like a real physical cable operated throttle and, as such, would be desirable - if...

Mine is down all winter usually as I have a hard top. It's difficult to close on first use but never impossible. A friend to press down on the front rail while the catches are operated should do it.

The water pump blowing - quite possible of course - would be silent IMHO, and this was an explosive noise. I concur with those who say it's likely to be a hose. Wash and vac is something any owner can do; we pay service agents for the techy stuff that we probably cannot do. It's an insult that they charge what they do for a charlady's job. That's why I prefer a good indie when there's something I am not equipped or able to do.

Interestingly, my diesel common-rail X-Type is indistinguishable from a cable accelerator, but diesels are sluggish at the best of times so it passes un-noticed.

I've now checked my 2.2 and it's c.42 @ 2k rpm, and 62 @ 3k rpm both in 4th gear so not as far out as I feared. I suppose that unless you are using OEM tyres then there is bound to be a discrepancy.

I have a 2.2 as well, and I am suspicious that my speedo is reading too high so I'll check the 20mph/1000rpm in 4th figure. My TomTom says about 8mph less than the dial at 70mph.
