Thanks for the suggestion, Estocks but my radio is all push buttons and the only thing that twists is the on/off/volume control. I guess BMW must have changed designs whenever they felt like it. I've gone through the manual - no mention of speed control except for a diagram of the back of the radio ...

rusty skirts
Hi Lee, Search "body panel removal" and you will find some comments I put on about getting the skirts (oversills) off which I put on just after we did the same as you need to do and the experience was fresh in my mind. It's not a difficult job but can be long winded and damned near impossi...

Business RDS and GAL
Thanks Jonttt, I did quite a few searches but most seemed to involve people fitting Becker heads and needing to extend the signal cable through the extra adapter cabling. Most American websites seem to deal with radios that don't look anything like the UK spec ones I'll have to look at the multipin ...

Business RDS and GAL
Can anyone help me with this problem, please? I have a 1999 2.0 fitted with a Business RDS radio/casette with a 6 CD changer A in the boot. I have gone into the radio menu and found the GAL setings which I can change from levels 1-6 but none of them seems to have any effect on the sound level at any...

Don't try to pull the grills out without taking the door cards off (the Bentley book seems to suggest they just pull out) otherwise you will probably tear the cards or bust thegrill lugs. There is a screw holding them in place which you get to behind the door card (at least on our 1999 2.0). Once th...

Z3M for sale in Kent
On my way to Pluckley, I passed the Brunswick Motor Company in Lenham (on the A20). They have a blue 1998(S) Z3M for sale. I popped in to have a look at it and it seems quite nice although the soft top has a few places that need sorting out. They want £7995 for it. Their phone number, for anyone int...

I tried the voltage drop-out test today - the voltage stayed at 12V throughout the rev range and didn't drop to zero at 2500 and above as I had hoped. I guess I'll have another diagnostic run on the car but this time I'll go to a local independent BMW garage - costs less and the man will let me watc...

Thanks for the suggestions, Robert. I'm wondering if the ecu works the electric valve via a relay and the relay output is faulty. If I connect the electric valve to the supply wire and measure the voltage across the supply, it drops to zero when the valve is connected but rises to 12V when the valve...

New owner with butterfly problems
I've disconnected the electric valve and put it across a battery - it operates perfectly & draws about 0.4A and I've now checked its resistance against another electric valve and both are 30 ohms. The butterfly valve is free and works fine and if I connect it directly to the vacuum line in the b...

New owner with butterfly problems
From what I understand the butterfly does not do anything apart from reduce noise at low revs. I have actually removed the pipe from the valve and pluged it...sounds better. If you do a search on Bmwland there are lots on this topic.. Thanks, but I do want it quieter at low revs and the fact that i...

You are right, the wings & sills remove easily by unbolting. You need to remove the plastic wing liners first (the front one takes longer as it has screws that hold it to the front bumper and has 2 plastic nuts that are right underneath). Once these are out, you can get to the end screws that yo...

New owner with butterfly problem
Can anyone please help me out with this problem? My Z3 2.0 has twin tail pipes & right hand one has a butterfly valve which stays open, even at idling. I have checked the valve & it closes OK when I suck the pipe. The electric vacuum valve in the n/s rear wing operates OK when I connect it a...
