I use Silkolene Pro S 5W40. It is a fully synthetic esther based oil that was recommended by Opie Oils. Prior to that I had used Mobil 1. The Silkolene seemed to make a noticeable difference to the way that the 3.0csl ran at high revs, when compared to the Castrol RS I had been suing prior to that. ...

Jamal, I think you're doing a cracking job. 'Bigging' up is just what the Z1 needs within the Club and the magazine. The 318d is an admirable car, and I'd prefer it to an Audi or a Golf, but it hardly sets the pulse racing now does it? In the Z1, we have a car that cannot really be compared directly...

I would suggest the control arm rear bushes too, as this made a huge difference on my old E30 M3. However, on the Z1 spacing the front wheels out by about 10mm (each side) makes a real difference to the sharpness of turn-in, as I discovered when I had to do this to fit my Brembos........ Terry, I would only ever use BMW original on bits like this. That said, if you buy them from C3 (0208 659 7272) then the belt and tensionner come to less than £30..... The difference probably pays for some more (BMW) long life antifreeze and a water pump for 'insurance'. Still a day out of your life...

Mine are 312x25mm. The callipers I used do require a small spacer to fit within the standard wheels, whereas these should fit straight in.

How's that 2.8 road-burner coming on?

I'd always go OEM if possible for bits like that, though not Stealer prices if it can be avoided. Try the guys at C3 (0208 659 7272). They do OEM bits at (usually) a decent discount.

Mmmmmmm. 330mm. Those'll fit in the standard wheels, right? Just kidding. I know my 312mm's with Brembo calipers are the very largest thing that those little wheels will accomodate without the caliper lathing a grove into the rims! They look nice though. Are they with E28/E30 M3 hubs and strutts?

Sorry Jet,

When we spoke I didn't think of the crank sensor. I have only ever had that fail on one car (not a BMW) and the evidence was just sudden and total loss of power, no speeding up or anything like you had.
