Seat goes back and forward but not up and down
My 2002 Z3 2.2 Sport has the fully electric seats. The passenger one goes back and forward properly, but if you try to alter the height I can hear something cclick under the seat, but it doesn't move, and there is no sign of the motor running. I just womdered if this is a common problem and if there...

Re: How nickable are Z3's?
It seems that the modern trend for keyless entry to cars is one of the causes of the car theft rate increasing. With a couple of small computers the thieves don't need to break into the car or the house. One stands at the front door and picks up the transmission from the fob, sends this code to the ...

Re: DSC light permanently on (code 163)
My garage changed that sensor on my 2002 2.2 litre after the old one was flooded by rain water, and the light stayed on with the new one fitted. They found that it needed to be calibrated so that it read zero when the car was stationary. I'm afraid I don't know how that was done.

Re: Rain Water Ingress - I'm out of ideas
Yes, I seem to have stopped it getting in. I used a two-fold assault after much close inspection of what was happening when it rained. Firstly I borrowed an idea from this or the Zroadster.org forum (can't remember which). The idea was to beef up the seal on the windscreen frame where the quarter gl...

Re: Dynamic Brake Control (DBC)
My 2002 Z3 2.2 Sport has DSC and it has caused me quite a lot of bother. The problem with my car, which might be the same for yours, was rain water ingress soaking under the carpets. Just in front of the passenger seat (RHD car), bolted to the floor are two sensor modules to assess lateral accelerat...

Re: How to remove your ABS module
Thanks very much for your detailed description. I don't have these problems on my Z3 - yet! But knowing what can be done and who can help is enormously reassuring. I have bought a C110 scanner which was able to clear a SRS fault on my car after I had removed and replaced the seats, but I wish I had ...

Re: Rain Water Ingress - I'm out of ideas
Thanks for that Emek. I will check that window adjustment procedure. The rain definitely gets past the seal where the fixed glass meets the windscreen frame. So far nothing I have tried has cured it, but it is cold here now and the car has a top cover on to keep the rain out. Once the weather change...

Re: Rain Water Ingress - I'm out of ideas
Thanks for your reply. Have you loosened the quarter glass bolts, pulled the quarter glass in towards the car and tightened it under tension? That's how I solved my issue in that location. WHERE ARE THE BOLTS YOU REFER TO? Are you 100% sure it's coming from there? YES. I HAVE BEEN SPRAYING THE CAR W...

Rain Water Ingress - I'm out of ideas
My Z3 has now been out of action for over a month while first the lateral acceleration sensor was replaced, then while I stripped the interior to try and dry it out, and now while I try to prevent the rain getting in again. I have successfully sealed the rubber plug at the top of the screen post, an...

Re: Broken suspension springs ??
It is just that rather than gradually wearing out they suffer catastrophic failure and the first you know about it is a dropped ride height or MOT refusal. Not on my VW. All I noticed was a gentle clicking noise when riding over bumps. Rear spring had snapped but you would never know from looking a...

Re: Broken suspension springs ??
Changing broken springs is one of the commonest jobs done by workshops these days. By the time I traded in my Mondeo it only had one original spring left. The new VW I replaced it with broke a spring after about 4 years. It isn't just a Z3 problem. It's a universal problem.

Re: Key Lock in Door just spins round
Graham, I'm not joking since I live on the coast in SW Scotland. Have you heard the description of the seasons in Scotland? There are only two - June and winter. We don't have snow or fog, rarely have frost but we have almost continuous wind and rain at this time of year. My poor Z3 lives outside an...

Re: Key Lock in Door just spins round
Thanks to both of you. The eatsleeptinker instructions are what I need to follow. As soon as it looks as though it won't rain for a few hours I'll give it a go - maybe next May then!

Key Lock in Door just spins round
While I have the interior out of my Z3 trying to dry it out and fix the leaks, I have the battery disconnected because the seats are out and all the switches on the centre console are unplugged as well. I have been locking the car with the key in the driver's door. Two days ago there was the sound o...

Re: DSC Warning Lights on
Robert said "From memory, I seem to recall that there is some kind of calibration process that has to be carried out on the new sensor. I don't recall if this needs software, or if it is automatic, requiring the car to be driven. I do know that INPA will show the individual outputs from the sen...

Re: DSC Warning Lights on
Thanks for those thoughts. I am not close to Amersham, living as I do in Troon, SW Scotland!
The link that Robert sent would be a lot more useful if I could see the pictures. Is there any way to make them appear? I know that Photobucket have screwed up lots of forums - is there a work-around?

DSC Warning Lights on
The car is a 2002 2.2 Sport. I have the brake fluid and the DSC lights permanently on, which the handbook tells me is caused by the DSC system. I have taken the car to a local independent workshop that I have used for years and have always found to be excellent in the past. The story so far... My ca...

Thanks all. I have sealed the plugs at the top of the pillar with Shoe Goo and despite some serious rain yesterday here in Scotland, all is dry inside. Fingers crossed it remains so!

Picked up my new-to-me Z3 yesterday and it rained overnight...
And this morning I have rain on the pasenger seat and on the passenger door sill (see photo). The soft top on this car is virtually new and looks fine in all the places where rain might enter. I have been unable to locate the source. What are the most likely places and how do I fix them? My passenge...
