For Sale: Z3 Bentley Manual - Like New

Post by finnbar »

As I recently sold my Z3M I'm now selling my Bentley Manual. It's in extremely good condition. As you can see in this pic:

Hi there, does this cover the 1.9i engine?

I happen to also be from East Grinstead.

Thanks,

Hi Laurence,

That's convenient! Yes it does cover the 1.9. Here's a pic of the table at the start of the 'engine section':

Kind regards,

Hi Finn,

just noticed this won't cover my 2002 Z3.

Probably should get one meant for my age car.

Thanks,

Oh that's a shame it's not the right year for your car. Funny as my Z3M was 2002 and I never even noticed this manual was for the wrong year :-)

I don't think they cover the M Roadster, regardless of the year.

It also wouldn't cover the 1.9i M43 engine which your car would have, as these weren't fitted to cars for the USA market, which this service manual was aimed at.
The 1.9 M44 is covered though.

Mine has a yellow cover and seems to cover all years and all engines.

2001 Z3 2.2 Topaz Blue (Trudy) - Keeper rebuilt from a write-off
2002 Z3 2.2 Titan Silver (Cookies) - Keeper rebuilt having been bought with a seized engine
2002 Z3 3.0 Sapphire Black (Peanut) - Keeper awaiting rebuilding having been bought as an abandoned project
Plus Willy, Kodak & Maycee - All 2.2 Sport projects. Yes, 6 is a lot of Z3s :)
Always happy to try and help with spares :)

That's interesting.. Are you sure it covers the 1.9i M43 engine? I know it says 1.9, but I have a feeling it's just the M44. The yellow manual does cover all production years, but I thought the engines are the American ones, the 2.3, 2.5 etc.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I would like to know if it covers the M43, because that's the engine in my car.
My Bentley manual is the edition with the silver cover (which covers all models up to 2002).

Ah, if you have the 1.9i M43, as I do, I don't suppose you happen to
Know where the coolant temperature sensor is do you? RealOEM has only
gotten me as far as knowing the it exists and that it plugs into the cylinder head somewhere. I've had everything out trying to find it, but I just can't.

As far as I know it's on the left hand side of the radiator, at the top.

Guess it depends which engine you have as to which book version you want/need... This is mine:

Bizarrely as I was reading this my lad was looking at the book and asking why it didn't cover the 2.2. So yes, you're right it's American. Engines are a dark art to me though. I have the book for everything apart from engines...

Just to clarify the engines in the Bentley Service manual:
1.9 M44 B19 (96-98)
2.3 M52 TU B25 (99-00)
2.5 M54 B25 (01-02)
2.8 M52 B28 (97-98)
2.8 M52 TU B28 (99-00)
3.0 M54 B30 (01-02)
3.2 S52 B32 (98-00)
3.2 S54 B32 (01-02)

These are the engines available in the US market. Some, but not all were available in other markets.

Laurence @LMMarks, the coolant temp sensor sits on the side of the cylinder head towards the rear, right under the inlet manifold next to the fuel supply/return pipes, a right pig to get at too! Hope that helps.
