Does anyone know if the 1999 BMW Z3 has a OBD1 or OBD2 diagnostic port

Good question Stephen, in 1999 there was quite a change in the vehicle electrics. You wil definitely have the 20pin diagnostic port under the bonnet, but you will need look at the trim panel under the steering wheel to see if you have OBDII.

The 20 Pin diagnostic port is used to communicate with all modules on the car but hte OBDII port only has a few connected to it.

Thanks for the reply Brian I am looking to buy a OBD2 16 Pin Connector Diagnostic Adapter for BMW 20 Pin from Amazon to connect to a Searley code reader I wondered if anyone had connected up using this method.
