M50 Manifold Swap Fuel Rail won’t fit

Post by MisterDV »

Swapping m50 intake manifold onto m52b28

Fuel rail and injectors won’t go in all the way unless I were to cut the metal mounting brackets off the fuel rail completely… but then there would be no way to secure the fuel rail to the mounting holes on the m50 manifold.

Any help appreciated!!!

What am I missing? A manifold kit would not have done anything to help this issue

For the benefit of those that come after you, what was it?

The mounting brackets/tabs on a m52 fuel rail have to be cut/notched in order to fit onto a m50 intake manifold.

On the m52 manifold, the mounting brackets and tabs for the fuel rail sit between the smaller runners. When you change to the m50 manifold, the larger runners have much less space between one another, thus leaving no room for the mounting brackets and tabs to fit between.

Also note: I used a small hand held pneumatic reciprocating saw because this particular saw generally does not produce any sparks, or excessive heat.
(I did this with the fuel lines still connected and all, I was just careful about it)

Also, once you are done making the cuts required to allow the fuel rail and injectors to properly press into the m50 manifold, the two bolt holes on the m50 manifold for the fuel rail are about 4cm off (each) so you must do what I did:

Two small rectangle pieces of metal or aluminium. You want them to be just thick enough that they won’t bend easily (2mm,3mm or bigger should work fine)

You will Drill two holes in each rectangle.
One hole is for the fuel rail bracket. The other hole is for the bolt hole on the m50 manifold.

These rectangles are just to secure the fuel rail to the manifold, since the holes on the m52 fuel rail don’t line up with the holes on top of the m50 manifold.

When you go to put it all together, the rectangular pieces will both have a small gap on one side. So just use a couple washers to make even the sides with the gaps.
