I nearly broke a rib laughing at your remark Conor

I just refilled the tank on the orange light and it took 38 litres (of BP Ultimate at a cost of £40) while the trip meter showed 212 miles which = 25mpg  :D

Coming back from Dunsfold, I got close to 400 miles on a single tank.

On the same sort of roads as you, Ryan, I get about 220 to 250 miles on a tank. I assume that's a full fill? I think there's something horribly wrong with your figures...

By a full fill how many liters went in?
It really does sound like the fuel sender is playing up - it's highly unlikely you'll get great fuel economy round Belfast (my 7 used to average just over single figures under communting), but, I drive my Z4 fairly hard and am averaging 22mpg - I can't see yours being much different.

Ryan what way are you using the Auto box? Do you take it out of first at all? Do you not just stick it in D? Do you drive and accelerate smoothly or do you plant it all the time? You should let Lyall drive it.

yeah man would really appreciate it if you could drive it and tell me what you think-ive only had my licence about a year and half so dont have a vast experience with cars but i know that something doesnt feel right!im just using petrol from tesco-after all every little helps

i usually drive it in D conor but stick it in the sports mode very occassionally which i know uses more petrol but this tank has all been normal driving so its even more unusual!

My fuel tank was showing wrong reading - when tanks was full it was showing half. Ended up being the sender unit - apparently mine had 2. Had to replace both.

I had my new sender units replaced for 250 pounds, from a german car specialist - so he claims.
I drove for a long while with my fuel meter showing different reading till one day my car just conked out. Fuel of course showed half but had nothing left init.
Since i got it done - no problems. Meant to be a common fault apparently with bmw's.
