I need to replace a rear brake line (mot fail) and thought if one has gone the others won't be far behind so may as well replace all. Does anyone know where the full brake line set can be sourced from (I'm in UK)? I purchased a Z1 braided brake line kit, of which there are many, on-line but this is just the end pieces that attach to the calipers. I've tried my local bmw but unsurprisingly they were no help at all? As always, any advice greatly appreciated.
Then you can browse aftermarket parts websites like in France oscaro.com or auto-doc.fr, you should have same in UK.
It is much easier when using OEM p/n and you should be able to identify them.
I did that few years ago and I bought all 7 hoses (don't forget clutch !) from ATE, that's original quality.
If the hard lines are unavailable it's not difficult to make up new lines, just a bit fiddly. I've done it on a similar age 911 using the old lines as a template.
How bad are they? Same issue some years ago so sanded back to bare metal including the ferule connectors, then coated in ACF50. Check them annually and re-coat if necessary but it did the trick.
Yeah, I'm actually not sure as i haven't seen it for myself. It's been picked up on by my local garage when the zed was in for its MOT. (One bac, wheel was spinning even though brakes were applied!) The mechanic (who's a friend) is seeing whether his contact can make up a braided replacement. If he can't, then I guess I get the car back and attempt it myself as suggested....just imagine it's not the easiest job without a pit or ramp...
Assuming it failed on the section visible from underneath, with front wheel and undertrays removed, ground level is more than adequate. A selection of wire wool, brushes, graded sandpaper, and if you have one, a Dremel.
Whilst your there treat other components to rust prevention solution will help with future proofing.
