Felix is indeed correct.

I had cause to research this with my old M3 Sport Evo. The car was a Cat D under the old designations (stolen and recovered before I bought it) and carried that throughout its time with me. I sold it in 2009 and it was exported by the buyer to an excited new owner in Spain. At that time, the UK only shared the 'Category' status on cars like these with Germany, so my Sport Evo became a fresh example of the 600 when it reached Spain, with a mileage but no black marks, hence my £16,000 sale price becoming a reputed €40,000 purchase price in the space of no more than a few weeks...

If anyone in either the UK or Germany ever buys that car, I was told by DVLA at the time that the stolen/recovered tag would return to it when the owner attempted to register. If you had just paid the sort of money that these cars now change hands for, that would be a nasty shock! Then again, the whole thing about cars being crashed or not is a bit silly really. Think of the limited run of 250 GTO's for instance and the number of them that saw extensive action on track in period. The number of those cars that have escaped 50+ years without any accidents must be very slim indeed and yet they are $10M of anyone's money. I don't see people saying, "Ah, nice car, but you know it was stuffed into the barrier at Le Mans in '64, so I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole" - Le Mans history - Oh yes!

Take care, one and all.
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

Another Red that’s been for sale for a while with a few price drops. Looks a nice car, can’t believe it hasn’t sold.

Coincidence, but 4 new owners joined the club this year, unusual. More covid related bargains to be had? One of which is very interesting....

He also reports that the 'disappearing' doors have been repaired (they are a common weak point of these striking roadsters)

What after less than 20 Kilometres! Really.

Maybe the doors just became lazy through lack of use?
Also car not on original Pirelli’s now on Dunlop’s so has been to a workshop.

Be interesting to see what it sells for.

For one owner and 63,000mls that Z1 is in a very poor state, panels are cracked, seats/wheels/gear stick are very worn. No way that has done "only" 63000mls in that state...

Buyer beware!!

Hmm ... £90k for a "new" 1991 car with 20km on the clock, one of 8,000 produced. Alternatively, a "new" 1990 car with 18km on the clock, one of 3.8m produced, with a similar colour scheme for £100k. Decisions, decisions

Hi All,

Good to hear from you Jet, this site has been very quiet of late!

Unfortunately I am confused by your comment about these two cars. I expect I am being thick, but would appreciate explanation of your point.

Hope we can get a sizeable Z1 gathering sometime this year to meet friends, old and new.

Hi Pat,

Hope your well.

No hidden meaning, just 2 contrasting restoration jobs. How’s your Z?

Hi RT
Good to see you posting again.

That car was for sale some time ago, 3 years maybe? See link below, It sold for about £30k.

I seem to recall some of its time has been spent In Canada as well as somewhere else other than the UK. Although it is a UK car.

http://www.manorgaragebox.co.uk/used/bm ... v76625438/

It has been on EBay for a long time until recently for about £48k.

I've seen your comments on CC you are asking all the right questions.

FWIW Classic Heroes recently sold a red Z1 from their own collection which was up for £56k! 18k miles only.

Are you looking to go back into Z1 ownership?

Thanks! That's really helpful.

I am always considering it having always regretted selling my last one, but prices spiked just after I sold mine and are usually unjustifiable. This one caught my eye due to the potential price advantage.

Hi RT,

My Z1 is going to be up for sale very shortly so let me know if you'd like any info on it.
Are you still based in London?

Cheers,

Interesting to know, depending on price. I did bid on that red one on CC, but wasn't prepared to pay £35k for it.

Yes, am still London-based.

Same red Z1 now back on EBay having been sold on auction site “Collecting Cars” within the last week! And about £8k less than previous EBay listing. Same seller!

Curious to see what those will sell for. It appears neither car has ever been registered which could make a first registration difficult to impossible in many countries.

Sexy prices ! As Felix points out, hopefully they can still be road registered

euro 92k for the red car and euro 155k for the green.(plus fees ?)

After spending 155k the buyer will need to budget for a new right lower side panel and a repaint. Unusual vertical split on the side panel, looks as if someone has attempted to jack the car up without using the two jack pads. Scratches on the rear bumper and the boot lid paint looks as if it is goosed.

Does anyone recognise G387 BLD which has turned up in a local specialist car dealer's showroom? It looks lovely and has a low mileage, if anyone here needs an extra Z1 in their life.

Something funny with that car, only 3300mls but the leather of seats show more use, the wrinkling is from sitting in it for long times...

Also the petrol gauge is European with liters showing, in the UK this should be E - F, while the Odometer and Speedo is in Miles and MPH...

I would check the VIN carefully to see what is going on... seems dodgy to me

Edit: I tried the VIN in a decoder and it can't find it!! STAY AWAY!!!
