Removal lower bodypanel

The driver's side lower body panel is very close to the door panel when opening, It actually has scratched the door at one point.

I would like to remove it and see if I can modify the position or the body panel(???), any tips on how to remove? I want to do this before I have the door panel re-sprayed.

Those instructions miss the first important step of removing the small plastic cover in the rear wheel arch before you can slide the side panel towards the rear to remove.
Be careful also when sliding the panel rearwards, of pulling the bottom of the panel too far out from the car, as the two plastic engagement forks on the panel are fairly fragile!

Pat is correct about the small covers on the wheel arches which keep out the dirt and grit. If you break them removing the lower panel be aware the L/H side is available from BMW but the R/H side is on back order with no known delivery date, as I found out when my rear wheel arch liners were replaced by my specialist and both covers went awol!

Well spotted gents, must get that sorted.

Once the panel is off, check for dirt or warping and clean thoroughly, if necessary light sanding.

If panel is warped adjust the hangars, there is some forward/backward movement at both ends, but mind the gap so it’s not noticeable against adjoining front and rear wings.
