Indicator relay

Post by bluejay »

Suspect that the relay for the right indicator is faulty...

Is this anything special? Where is it located, somewhere under the dashboard?

Hi Robert,

This subject is mentioned in a post from Felix - he states that the relay is located inside the steering column /steering wheel needs to come off to access.

Seems there is more at fault,…

The right parking lights now stay on… is this controlled by the indicator relay?

Cam someone please post the wiring diagram around this?

Hi Robert,

sounds like a problem at the indikator switch. I have had a similar problem with the high beam switch. Sometimes, in spring after the winter pause the high beam switch doesn't work correctly.
There is a lot of grease inside the switches and over the years this grease solidifies and so the contacts could get stuck.

I send you an email with the diagrams soon.

Michael

Hi Robert,

I don't think that the problem is the relay but if so, the relais of the e31, e32 e34 and e36/Z3 should fit too.
If you have a smaller steering wheel, you can try an indicator swich of e34. When you connect the wires from the Z1 harness to e34 switch (the wires are soldert to the switch) it will work perfect with a small steering wheel because the lever of the e34 switch is a little bit shorter. :-)

I'll se if I can do something to the indicator switch...

Maybe a good clean with WD40 or something might do the trick, it is accessible now anyway.

Well, the relay is no longer available, so if that is indeed the problem, I need to find a solution somehow...(any one got one for sale??)

It could be the indicator stalk, I cleaned it with WD40 (somewhat) but may have to investigate further with a multi meter to see if the relay gets connected (thanks to Stoertje for the wiring diagram!!), I still suspect the relay as when the hazard switch is applied it still doesn't work...

EBAY??? e31, e32 e34 and e36/Z3 should fit too just take care of the number of contacts and the housing... search for the part-no: 61311379040

Btw. who said it's not available? Have you ordered here? https://www.leebmann24.de/bmw-ersatztei ... bt=61_0801 (it's the part no. 3)

...if you have an user-account at https://www.auto-treff.com/forum/ you can get a little discount for your order in the Leebmann-Shop :D

Just create an account in that forum, then create a customer account in the Leebmann-shop and sent them an email with you forum username and shop account data (name, adress and so on) The discount is calculated automatically in the Shop. :D

Normal the delivery capability is correct, because the shop is directly connected to the BMW warehouse. If there is shown "delivery on request" it`s worth to send a short email request.
