Replace mirror glass

The mirror glass on the pass side is displaying "delamination", I can order a new glass from leebmann.

Any tips on how to remove the glass and re-install the new one?

Considering the mirror is hold by the center I would insert 2 loops of thin rope on right and left (between the mirror and the shell) and then pull evenly. It should come off.

Thanks Robert and Felix for the links. It looks like the glass only option is not in stock anymore. Don't really want to pay 225 euros for a bit of glass!

I needed a replacement mirror glass in 2014. I think it was near side.

Elms Bedford invoice shows part no B5.16.2.290.737. Description 145971/mirror glass Price an outrageous £52.96 plus vat £63.55. 9 years ago.

This is glass only. As Fred mentioned it sticks to a central round plastic ring which is part of the mirror motor. A BMW Z4 replacement glass is £10.

It may be worthwhile using the damaged glass as a pattern and seeing if it fits within the area of a Z4 replacement mirror and ask a local glazier to cut it to size and then seal the edge with clear varnish.
