Starter Solenoid?

My 2002 Z3 3 litre has been in home storage for the last 3 yrs it is on a trickle charger but has a recurring problem in that when I try to start it there is absolutely no response from the starter after repeated attempts sometimes over 2 or 3 days it will eventually kick in, is this due to the starter solenoid? I am 87 and wish to sell it as I can no longer drive.
