Fuelpump failed

Post by bluejay »

My fuelpump failed yesterday, after a long recovery the Z1 is standing at home, any suggestions on how to replace it?

What are the trick or tips for doing this?

Thnx

Hi Robert,

It's not a big deal to replace fuel pump.
You must be careful to remove carpet to not damage it and then the tricky part is below the metal cover (4 screws)... to unscrew the big ring which is closing the tank and holding the pump mechanism.

Then either you change the big block (pump + metal stand - available from BMW) or you only change Bosch pump (see p/n on the body). If you do so, you will have to change electrical connectors if I remember well and re-use original filter at the bottom.

Good luck :)

It's reasonably straight forward. In addition to the pump you will need a new rubber sealing gasket (16111179637) when putting the new pump back into the tank.

For alternative to the expensive BMW part contact Merlin Motorsport who can supply various Z1 comparable pumps units.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery before you begin.

I haven't had the issue yet, but concerned about removing carpet and reinstalling it without any visible signs of disturbance!
Any hints and tips appreciated for future reference?

The carpet was held down by the locking ring of the boot, two bolts to undo, and glued to the body only at the back.

A bit of wriggling and pushing undid the carpet for access.

the pump was replacced by a Bosch unit, so we are back in the vroom vroom business!!

Just need to glued the carpet down again when the temperatures are a bit higher... i.e. spring

I would love to show a picture but the size limit on here is so smol...

Anyone knows what the partnumber is of the plastic insert in the tow point at the front?

I had to destroy the original to allow access...

Good to hear your problem is solved. Out of curiosity what are the Bosch part numbers for the original and replacement pump ?
